GENESEO, N.Y. – Two SUNY Geneseo faculty members have received highly competitive Fulbright Awards for the Spring 2019 semester.

Denise Scott, professor of sociology, will conduct research at the H.N.B. Garhwal University in Srinagar, India, and Jun Okada, associate professor of English, will teach and conduct research at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, in Lisbon, Portugal.

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Aspiring film producer Shauna Ricketts ’18 fell in love with the art and educational power of documentaries while studying abroad during the spring 2017 semester in Southeast Asia at Thailand’s Mahidol University. Her coursework encouraged her to analyze contemporary issues in Southeast Asia through an interdisciplinary lens focusing on ethnicity, nationalism and the social constructions surrounding women in Southeast Asia.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Julianne Sweeney '16 has won a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship in the area of geosciences. Sweeney, a Geneseo native, graduated with a degree in geological sciences and then worked as a research technician for the Geneseo Department of Geological Sciences under the advisement of Nicholas Warner, assistant professor of geological sciences. She is currently employed at EagleView, an aerial imagery company.

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Waderlie Mendez ’20 has been named a Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) Scholar for 2018-19 and will travel to Cadiz, Spain, and around the country this summer to study Spanish language and culture. The sophomore psychology major is the first Geneseo student to win this award and joins a class of 100 Scholars chosen from a pool of more than 2,300 applicants representing approximately 517 colleges and universities across the country.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Three researchers in the Department of Physics and Astronomy have received a $20,000 research initiation grant from the NASA/NY Space Grant Consortium.

Principal investigator David Meisel, Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Computational Astrophysics, is teaming with Charles Freeman, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physics and Astronomy and Chair of the department, and Savitri Iyer, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, on the project, titled “Explorations into Time-resolved Particle Tomography for Atmospheric and Space Research."

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo’s Asian/Asian American Studies and Programming and the Department of Theatre and Dance are sponsoring dance studies guest artist Chung-Fu Chang in residence Feb. 21-25.

Chang is a full professor in the Colorado State University (CSU) School of Music, Theatre and Dance and has showcased his theatrical works and performances in many parts of the world.
