News articleSUNY Geneseo is partnering with the State University of New York at Buffalo to launch “AI in Action: Transforming Higher Education Through AI.” The partnership, which includes eight other SUNY institutions in Central and Western New York, will leverage the Empire AI supercomputer, housed at the State University of New York at Buffalo, to increase access to AI for research and professional development for SUNY students and faculty.
The collaboration is part of the Empire AI campus partnerships, which aim to enhance AI (artificial intelligence) education and research for the public good. Through a fellowship program and tailored opportunities, SUNY students and faculty will develop the skills needed to use AI effectively and ethically, strengthening their academic and professional growth.
“The partnership with the University at Buffalo and Empire AI represents an exciting opportunity to integrate artificial intelligence across our curriculum in meaningful and ethical ways,” says Mary C. Toale, SUNY Geneseo provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Through participation in the AI in Action fellowship program, Geneseo faculty will develop innovative approaches to teaching and research that prepare our students not only to use AI, but to think critically about its applications and implications. The program’s emphasis on ethics, compliance, and accessibility aligns perfectly with our liberal arts mission and our commitment to developing thoughtful, engaged citizens who will shape the future of technology for society’s benefit.”
“I am grateful to Governor Hochul and the State Legislature for their continued support and investment in advancing training and leadership in AI,” says Melinda D. Treadwell, President. “As a result of their support, SUNY is opening more opportunities for our students and faculty to engage with state-of-the-art tools and advance impactful research and innovation for the public good.”
