Intekhab Alam, distinguished teaching professor of marketing in SUNY Geneseo’s School of Business, has received a prestigious Fulbright Specialist award to consult at the Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship (GSBE) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. GSBE is a new graduate institution founded by the Government of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction.

Alam will spend a month in late spring 2026 helping to develop the school’s MBA, DBA, and PhD programs. He will also assist with GSBE’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation and help integrate AI into their marketing and management curricula.

The Fulbright Specialist program was established in 2001 by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program pairs highly qualified US academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures. Successful applicants join a roster of candidates who are eligible to be matched to a project in another country.

Last spring, Alam received a 2025–26 Fulbright US Scholar award to Oman and is currently working at the College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University in the capital city of Muscat.

“I have witnessed the significant role that socially responsible companies play in shaping a more just and inclusive world—a stark contrast to those driven purely by self-interest,” Alam says. “My goal is not only to prepare my students for the real world but also to equip them with the tools to become responsible global citizens.”

Alam sees the Fulbright Specialist award as more than a personal achievement. “It recognizes my commitment to using marketing education and research as a catalyst for positive change and building bridges across cultures and academic communities,” he says. “It symbolizes the power of global collaboration in shaping a better world.”

Alam earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Calcutta, India, an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University, India, and a Master of Business in marketing by research from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He earned a doctorate in marketing from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

The Fulbright Specialist program application is open to faculty members and other professionals. The 2027–28 Fulbright US Scholar competition application will open in February 2026.
