A co-founder of SUNY Geneseo’s figure skating club, Emily Warren ’27, recently won
fourth place in the junior ladies’ category at the US Collegiate Figure Skating
Championships and Invitational in Minnesota.
“The competition was a test of my hard work and determination,” says Warren. “Being at
a collegiate championship is a feat. Placing is even more rewarding.”
Warren co-founded the figure skating club as a freshman with Rosario Savash Acuna
’27. It is open to new and experienced skaters of all skill levels and hosts practices,
lessons, shows and competitions, and off-ice conditioning, as well member bonding
activities. There are about 40 active members.
Warren is majoring in history and social studies adolescent education, and is minoring in
dance studies. She draws on movement and artistry from both figure skating and dance.
“Movement on ice and in studio help inspire each other,” says Warren. “My dance
education at Geneseo has helped me become more creative and thoughtful about how I
perform in skating competitions and plays a role in the development of my creative
process. Figure skating is art and an outlet for my emotions and storytelling.”
