SUNY Geneseo has rearticulated its mission and value statements as part of its strategic planning process. Earlier this year, the college’s Strategic Planning Group (SPG), with the participation of more than 1,100 Geneseo constituents, collaboratively revisited the statements, which reaffirm Geneseo’s identity as a public liberal arts institution and intention to produce graduates who will shape a better world.

The SPG’s process gathered input from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community via brainstorming sessions and two surveys. Through a unique dashboard, the statements were derived from participants’ ranking of words and phrases.

“Our core values highlight our commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive community of engaged scholars,” says Denise Battles, president of SUNY Geneseo. “And they celebrate the powerful outcomes inherent in a liberal arts education.”
