First-Gen POP: First-Generation Pre-Orientation Program

Prior to new student move-in, from August 15-August 17, we are hosting First-Gen POP: Geneseo’s First-Generation Pre-Orientation Program! This program is specifically designed for students who are the first in their families to attend college and takes place three days before the in-person New Student Orientation.

The program aims to assist first-generation students in their transition to college by helping them build confidence, develop social and academic skills, and establish a sense of belonging that contributes to their academic success and retention. We understand that being the first in your family to attend college can come with its own set of challenges and uncertainties, but it is also a testament to your dedication and resilience.

What can you expect from the program?

The program will introduce students to the college experience using peer mentoring sessions, faculty and staff led workshops, group discussions, creative reflection activities and hands-on experiences. Students have the opportunity to acclimate to the campus community and culture, acquaint themselves with useful resources, and connect with other first-generation peers. At Geneseo, we’re not only here to provide you with the tools and support you need to succeed but to celebrate your contributions and accomplishments along the way.

How do you sign up?
