Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome (WOW) is the official start of a new semester. It's a transitional time when new students get to know the campus and prepare for their academic endeavors.

The Department of Student Life organizes an exciting slate of events during this time, which includes many different way to get involved with student organizations, celebrate school spirit by cheering on our athletic teams, and connect to the campus community.

Sunday, August 25th
  • 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. | Women’s Equestrian Team Open House! | Leg Up Stables: Come meet the Geneseo Women’s Equestrian Team at their stable’s Open House! The stable is located at 3589 Avon Geneseo Road, which is just a short ride from campus. Transportation will be provided at 12:45 pm at Merritt Circle (in front of the Ice Arena)!
Monday, August 26th
  • 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. | MONDAY MADNESS! | Various Locations: Happy First Day of Classes! Our Scavenger Hunt will be posted on the Student Life Instagram at 8 a.m.! Must find and take pictures with the place described in each clue. First 20 students to complete the scavenger hunt and return to MCU will win a prize! Students must complete the Scavenger Hunt by 3 pm.
     
  • 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Mac N Cheese Bar | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Lobby: Stop by the MCU Lobby for a Mac N Cheese bar, because what better way to celebrate the start of the new semester?
     
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Women’s Club Soccer Tryouts | Saratoga Field: Geneseo’s Women’s Club Soccer team is looking for new members! Tryouts will take place the first week of the semester on 8/26, 8/27, and 8/29! Email for more information or come to tryouts to meet the team! No former experience required!
Tuesday, August 27th
  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Tie Dye Tuesday | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Patio: Come join the Department of Student Life to tie dye a t-shirt on the MCU patio!
     
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Women’s Club Soccer Tryouts | Saratoga Field: Geneseo’s Women’s Club Soccer team is looking for new members! Tryouts will take place the first week of the semester on 8/26, 8/27, and 8/29! Email for more information or come to tryouts to meet the team! No former experience required!
     
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Student Senate Meet and Greet | Fireside Lounge: Interested in applying for Student Senate and want to learn more? Returning to Senate and want to connect with fellow Senators? Join them in the Fireside Lounge for a presentation from their Executive Board and a chance to learn about Senate!

  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Win It Wednesday | Letchworth Field: The Amazing Race – Genny style! Sign up with your team to compete to win new Geneseo gear! Event meets in front of Letchworth Dining Hall.

  • 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Student Organizations Expo | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Patio: Your one stop shop for all things student activities! Find and join a new club, or 12!

  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Mock Trial Interest Meeting | Bailey 247: Mock Trial club is holding a meeting for anyone interested in trying out for the upcoming season, which will hae information about what Mock Trial club entails and the tryout dates.
     
  • 7:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | UAA’s Paint the Tree and Capture A Sunset! Traditions Event | Painted Tree: All students are invited to celebrate two of Geneseo's most beloved traditions: Paint the Tree (sign your name) and Capture a Geneseo Sunset with members of the Undergraduate Alumni Association (UAA). Refreshments will be available.
     
  • 8:00 p.m. | 10:00 p.m. | eSports “Open House” | MacVittie College Union (MC) 322/323: An introduction into the world of eSports at Geneseo! A time to game and meet some other students with similar gaming interests. Games and controllers will be provided, but bringing your own games and controllers is encouraged.
Friday, August 30th
  • 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Food Truck Friday with GLK! | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Patio: Join Geneseo Late Knight (GLK) for their first Food Truck Friday of the semester! Come grab some dinner and a sweet treat from local trucks Shakin Smiles, Robs Kabobs, and Ice Cream and Chill!
     
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Meet Phi Lamb and Sammys! | Letchworth Field: Come meet the members of Phi Lambda Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu while enjoying some food, yard games, and music!
     
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | Welcome Back Barbeque with Hillel | Interfaith Center (11 Franklin St.): Come join Hillel for their first meeting back with a delicious BBQ and lots of fun lawn games! 
     
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | OGX Interest Meeting | Schrader Dance Studio 152: The Original Xpressions (OGX) Dance Team is ready to start the semester with some new members and  fun dance routines! OGX is looking for new members and no prior experience is required. No commitment is necessary at the time of the meeting; simply come if interested!
     
  • 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | Club Baseball Interest Meeting | Newton 214: Join Club Baseball for their fall interest meeting, where they’ll introduce what the club does to potential new members!
     
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | WOWcapella | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Patio: Interested in acapella? Join all five Geneseo acapella groups as they connect with students, and perform for the first time this semester!
Saturday, August 31st
  • 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Upstate Escapes to Stony Brook Park! | Stony Brook Park (Dansville, NY): Explore the wilderness, swimming holes, and waterfalls with the Multicultural Center (MCC)! The bus leaves at 12:30 pm outside the MacVittie College Union (MCU). Please bring $1-$2 for the bus driver’s tip. Sign up at the MCC!
Monday, September 2nd
  • 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Nature Prints with Alpha Delta Epsilon | Newton 209: Using naturally made dyes, collected plants, and terracotta pots, Alpha Delta Epsilon (ADE) siblings and potential rushes will be spending time together and decorating their own planters!
Tuesday, September 3rd
  • 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Welcome Back Self-Care Night with Creative Writing Club! | Welles 119: Come join the Creative Writing Club for a night of journaling, black out poetry, and zine making. Unwind after the first few weeks and meet the club!
     
  • 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Nature’s Tie-Dye w/ Men of Action and Change (MAC) | MacVittie College Union (MCU) 322/323: Using naturally made dyes, Alpha Delta Epsilon (ADE) siblings, Men of Action and Change (MAC) brothers, and potential rushes will be spending time together and making tie-dye shirts!
     
  • 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | Art History Club Weekly Meeting | Bailey 246: Join the Art History Club for their first weekly meeting of the semester! Participants will discuss a topic and do a relevant activity; topics are determined in advance and posted on social media for members and anyone interested to check it out. Past activities have included crafts, Kahoot, trivia, and competitions!
Wednesday, September 4th
  • 12:00 pm-2:00 pm | WING it Wednesday | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Lobby: Come get competitive with the Department of Student Life for a chicken wing eating competition! Finish 10 chicken wings the fastest to win a prize. There will be two rounds. Sign up for this event by Tuesday, 9/3!
     
  • 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. | Geneseo Tour Guide Meet & Greet | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Patio: Interested in becoming a Geneseo Tour Guide? Come meet & mingle with the Geneseo Tour Guide team! Ask questions about their experience and learn about the process to go from Geneseo student to Geneseo Tour Guide! In the case of rain, the meet & greet will be held in MCU 325.
     
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Get to Know YCC | South Hall 338: Any interested students are invited to get to know the eboard and members of the Young Children’s Council (YCC)!
     
  • 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. | K-Pop Trivia Night | MacVittie College Union (MCU) 322/323: Come play trivia with the Korean American Student Association (KASA)! Students are invited to sign up in teams or individually to compete in a K-Pop Trivia game to win prizes! 
Friday, September 6th
  • 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Sibling Speed Dating | Newton 209: Alpha Delta Epsilon (ADE) siblings and potential new members will have an opportunity to sit down and discuss facts about ourselves, interests, hobbies, and more!
     
  • 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Back to School Pool Party with MCC and GLK! | Alumni Pool: Join the Multicultural Center (MCC) and Geneseo Late Knight (GLK) for a pool party! Details to come!
     
  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. | First-Gen Student Pop-Up | Save the date! The GPS Guides will be doing a pop-up event for First Generation students to meet each other? First Generation students are students whose parents or guardians did not attend a four-year college or university. More details to come soon!
Saturday, September 7th
  • 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. | Musical Theater Club (MTC) Auditions) | Alice Austen Theater: Musical Theater Club (MTC) auditions are very relaxed and laid back! MTC is looking for people who like to sing, dance, act, work backstage as crew, or all of the above! No matter your talent, there is a place for you to join. The auditions include preparing a 16-32 measure section of a musical theater song (with or without a track) followed by a dance audition. Wear comfy clothes and bring your energy!
     
  • 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. | Campfire and S’mores w/ Hillel & GLK | MacVittie College Union (MCU) Plaza: Come join GLK and Hillel to make your own smores!
