Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome (WOW) is the official start of a new semester. It's a transitional time when new students get to know the campus and prepare for their academic endeavors.

The Department of Student Life organizes an exciting slate of events during this time, which includes many different way to get involved with student organizations, celebrate school spirit by cheering on our athletic teams, and connect to the campus community.

Monday, August 29th
  • 12 pm-3 pm | College Union Lobby |  Welcome Back Snacks: Everyone loves a great FREE snack! Come by the College Union Lobby, grab some snacks, and meet some of the great Student Life faculty and staff members who will become familiar faces all year!
  • 4 pm-6 pm | Letchworth Field | Frisbee Field Day: Get outside and join Ultimate Frisbee as they compete in various races and games such as the Box Game and Kan Jam.
Tuesday, August 30th
  • 12 pm-3 pm | College Union Patio | Truck'n Tuesday Series: Food Truck Alert! Yup you read that correctly, stop by the union Patio and grab some great free meals from amazing local food trucks from the Rochester area.
  • 6 pm | College Union Ballroom | Yes, We Plan! Planning a successful semester with Her Campus!: Get organized with Her Campus for the upcoming semester. A free Her Campus bookmark will be given to the first 100 students who attend.
Wednesday, August 31st
  • 2pm-4pm | College Union Patio and Pathway | Student Organization Expo: 

    Looking to get involved on campus? Look no further! Come explore all the student-run organizations Geneseo has to offer. All student groups will be tabling outside to union and are eager to get to know prospective members. See you there!

  • 8:30pm | Saratoga Field | Movie Knight w/ AKPsi: 

    Grab your cozy slippers and comfy sweats and enjoy a movie night with AKPsi. Come up to Saratoga Field and meet the members of AKPsi as they stream Monsters Inc. 

Thursday, September 1st
  • 2pm-6pm | College Union Ballroom | Stop the Bleed with Geneseo First Response: 

    Drop by the union to hang out with members of Geneseo First Response to learn some everyday first aid skills such as stop the bleed and pick up a free first aid kit at the end!

  • 5pm-7pm | Letchworth Field | Sunsets w/ Phi Lamda Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu: Come watch the infamous Geneseo sunset and connect with new and returning students as we enjoy snacks and paint on canvases. 
Friday, September 2nd
  • 2pm-3pm | Outside of Blake Hall | Kind Communication Rocks!: 

    Like to paint? Enjoy music? Have something encouraging to say? Come “rock out” with members of the Communication Department and cultivate kindness by contributing to their "Kind Communication Rock Garden."

  • 2pm-5pm | College Union Plaza | Welcome Back BBQ: 

    Like to paint? Enjoy music? Have something encouraging to say? Come “rock out” with members of the Communication Department and cultivate kindness by contributing to their "Kind Communication Rock Garden."

  • 6pm-8pm | College Union Lobby | Painting Tote Bags w/ Pride: Join Pride for a fun get-together where members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies can meet, hang out, decorate and design images for reusable tote bags, play board/card games, and more. It will be a great low-key, low-pressure opportunity for new students on campus to begin to integrate into the existing community
  • 7pm | Fireside Lounge | Bubble TV: 

    Come meet the members of the Filipino Student Union and the Chinese Cultural Club and enjoy some delicious bubble tea!

Saturday, September 3rd
  • 2pm-4pm | College Union Patio | Blu and White BBQ: 

    Have you ever thought about joining greek life? Come meet the illustrious members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated at their annual Blu and White BBQ for some great food and conversation!

 Sunday, September 4th
  • 12pm-2pm | Interfaith Center | Cosplay Brunch !: 

    Come join the Caribbean Student Association for a Cosplay Brunch. You will enjoy some traditional Caribbean-style breakfast, come dressed as your favorite character, and meet the club members and other students! 

Monday, September 5th
  • 3pm | College Union Patio | Get the Scoop w/ SMAC: 

    Come meet the sisters of Sisters Making a Change as they connect with campus community members to share the importance of wellness! The transition to college can be stressful, but also exciting! Enjoy some free yummy ice cream as the sisters share stories about self-care strategies they use in their daily lives as college students!

Tuesday, September 6th

Wednesday, September 7th
  • 1pm-5pm | College Union Ballroom | Volunteer Fair: 

    The Office of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement is hosting a Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, September 7 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm. This annual event provides an opportunity to connect with local and regional nonprofits and organizations, as well as student clubs and programs, that rely on volunteers to carry out their mission.

  • 3:30pm-5:00pm | Erwin 219 | Dean of Academic Planning & Advising (DAPA) Open House Open House: 

    Come and check out the new academic peer mentor space and open study space for any student to use. We will have cookies with a mentor meet and greet and a chance to win a door prize.

  • 4:00pm | Newton 201 | Geneseo Jeopardy: 

    Welcome to Geneseo! Think you know everything about Geneseo or want to learn more about our campus? Join Admissions for Geneseo Jeopardy, food, and Geneseo swag for the winners! Compete against other first-year and transfer students, and hang out with current tour guides to learn more about how to get involved in the admissions office. We hope to see you there!
     

Thursday, September 8th 
  • 11am-1:30pm | Fraser Library | Check out the Library (with no fines): 

    Visit the Library to enjoy snacks, meet the staff and learn about library services, grab some giveaway items, and participate in a game of Library Bingo to be entered in a raffle to win one of 14 great prizes! Additionally, the first 100 visitors will be given a gift box, so be sure to stop by early...hope to see you in Fraser Hall Library!

    Students are played a theme song from a popular TV show and if they have it on their bingo board then they mark it down and those who get bingo can win prizes from a $200 prize package!

Tuesday, September 13th
  • 8pm-10pm | College Union 322/323 | K-Pop Trivia Night: 

    Come out and meet the members of the Filipino Student Union and the Chinese Culture Club at Geneseo. Enjoy a screening of the show Make it Pop and sip on some delicious Bubble Tea provided by Taichi Bubble Tea.

  • 12pm-3pm | College Union Lobby | Wellness Wednesday: 

    We all need reminders to live a healthier lifestyle at times. There are so many ways to help promote healthy habits! Come down to the union and meet some adorable therapy dogs!

  • 1pm-2:30pm | MJ Patio | Physical and Mental Strength Obstacle Course!: 

    Come join the department of health and counseling and test your mental and physical strength with our obstacle course. 

  • 4:00pm-6:00pm | Multicultural Center | LGBTQ+ Mixer: Come visit this brand new on-campus space and enjoy great conversations and snacks.

  • 11am-1pm | Virtual | SUNY Abroad Virtual Fair: 

    As a SUNY student, you have access to over 800+ study abroad and away programs across the entire SUNY system. To help you find the program that’s the best fit, SUNY is hosting a virtual study abroad fair via CareerEco! The fair will consist of chat rooms hosted by each participating campus. Students can sign in anytime during the event and use text or video to ask questions to program representatives and advisors.
    During the fair, you’ll find....
    - Over 800 programs available through the SUNY system
    - Programs in over 60 countries
    - Chat with representatives from over 20 SUNY Schools

  • 2pm-4pm | Welles 211 (Lounge Area) | Welcome to the World of Languages: 

    The Department of Languages and Literatures will set up cultural displays about the languages we teach and the locations of our study abroad programs. Stickers, pencils, and other small "goodies" will be available to attendees. Videos and music will be featured.

  • 8pm-11pm | College Union Rm 322/323 | Inter - Geek Council: 

    Get your inner geek on at the Inter-Geek Council! We have board games, video games, anime, food, and more! Find a place to express your inner nerd and find others who like doing the same!

  • 11am-2pm | College Union Lobby | SUNY Geneseo Study Abroad Fair: 

    Interested in study abroad but don't know where to start? Come to the Study Abroad Fair!
    At the fair, you can learn about...
    - Information about each program, including the opportunity to speak with the study abroad program leaders and returned study abroad students
    - Available scholarships, grants, and financial aid
    - Nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships
