Stephen Leone, a professor of chemistry and physics at Berkeley, will give the Jean Dreyfus Lecture at 7–8 p.m., Tuesday, March 12 in Newton 202. In his lecture, “X-ray Eyes,” Leone will discuss the broad realm of X-rays, from their discovery and uses in medicine, to science fiction and new experiments in the chemistry lab. A reception in Newton will immediately precede the event. Leone’s talk is free and open to the public.

Called “the most important thinker on intellectual property in the Internet era,” by The New Yorker, Creative Commons founding member and Harvard law professor Lawrence Lessig will deliver the Open Education Week’s keynote address at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 6 in Wadsworth Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Dennis Childs, associate professor of African American literature at UC San Diego, will deliver the Diversity Summit’s keynote address. Childs’ talk, “Creating a Social Justice Centered Approach to Diversity,” will be held in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom at 2:30–3:45 p.m., Friday, March 1. A Q&A session with Childs will follow the keynote. The event is free and open to the public.

Geneseo Community Engagement (GCE) is a new way to connect the resources at SUNY Geneseo with the needs of the community and vice versa. Combining the shared missions of several campus programs, GCE forges relationships between local residents and businesses and members of the SUNY Geneseo community.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Leadership and Service will enable Geneseo students and senior citizen volunteers to learn and work together on important community outreach efforts.

With nearly all of the holiday-season campus drives completed, the hosting departments and programs are reporting that they’ve collected an abundance of food, gifts, and other goods for families and others who are in need in our region.
