Author and public historian Spencer Crew, Ph.D., will deliver the 2018 Walter Harding Lecture Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. Crew’s lecture, “Civil Disobedience, the Underground Railroad and Thoreau,” is free and open to the public.

Geneseo faculty and students will provide a day of free entertainment at this year’s Rochester Fringe Festival. Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Lyric Theatre at 440 East Ave. in Rochester, performances will include music, dance and spoken word.

Annmarie Urso, associate professor of education and director of the Soaring Stars program in the School of Education, has received three grants to support the program and additional funding for a key transition component of the program.

State University of New York Chancellor Kristina Johnson recently visited Geneseo’s campus as part of her tour of SUNY’s 64 colleges and universities. Johnson joined SUNY as its chancellor in September 2017.

SUNY Geneseo has launched a new Music Education advisement track that will ready bachelor’s degree students in music to apply for the master of arts degree from the Eastman School of Music.

SUNY Geneseo recently welcomed 150 high school students and mentors from across New York for Camp College, a 3-day college-access experience for upper-level high school students.

Kyle Matthews, assistant professor of Spanish, led a group of 10 Geneseo students who joined 19 students from other campuses as part of the SUNY Stands With Puerto Rico initiative. The students helped repair and replace roofs, doors, and windows on residents’ homes.

Two SUNY Geneseo philosophy majors, seniors Eva Reda-Kendrick and Brian Pattison, are presenting papers at the Gonzaga Undergraduate Philosophy Conference in Spokane, Wash. Both students based their papers on essays they wrote for different philosophy courses taught by Professor Ted Everett.
