Marlene Laruelle, a research professor of international affairs at the George Washington University, will deliver the annual Kenneth Roemer Lecture on World Affairs at SUNY Geneseo. Her talk, “Making Sense of Russia: Putin’s Fourth Term and its Implications for Russia and the World,” will take place at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 22 in the Doty Recital Hall. McNair Grant Launches Students Toward PhD Studies

SUNY Geneseo has been selected to participate in the prestigious Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. The aim of the McNair Program is to increase the numbers of low-income, first-generation, and historically underrepresented undergraduates who pursue Ph.D. degrees. Diedre DeBose, director of Access Opportunity Programs, will serve as the McNair Scholars Program director.

‘Lake of Betrayal’ Screening and Q&A with Filmmakers at Riviera     

Lake of Betrayal, a documentary that explores the history of Kinzua Dam and its effect on the Seneca Indians whose lands were taken for the reservoir, will be shown at Geneseo’s Riviera Theater on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. A Q&A session with the filmmakers and Michael Oberg, SUNY Distinguished Professor of History, will follow the screening. The event is free and open to the public.

GOLD Event: Constitution Day Deliberative Dialog on Finding a “Political Fix”

Monday, September 18th is Constitution Day. In honor of the day, Geneseo is hosting a special deliberative dialog discussion, “Political Fix–How Should We Get American Politics Back on Track?” Advance registration, which is required, closes on Friday, Sept. 15 at noon. Students are eligible for Silver or Diamond credit.

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Historian Heather Ann Thompson to Speak on Attica Uprising

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Heather Ann Thompson, professor of history at the University of Michigan, will deliver a lecture on the Attica Prison uprising of 1971. Her talk, “The Attica Prison Uprising and Why It Matters Today,” will occur on the 46th anniversary of the uprising, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m. in Newton Hall. The talk is free and open to the public. A book signing and reception will follow.
