Q&A With Matt Weber '24

Matt Weber (SUNY Geneseo/Matt Burkhartt)

Matt Weber '24 is a communication major in the journalism and media track from Orchard Park, NY.

Q: Why did you pick communication as a major?
A: I have always found the field of writing and speaking so cool! Even though we may see the same things, we interpret them entirely differently, which I find interesting.

Q: Do you participate in any clubs or sports?
A: I am the play-by-play announcer for the Geneseo Ice Knights Hockey team. I'm a member of the social service fraternity Men of Action and Change and am involved with the campus radio station 89.3 WGSU.

Q: Why did you decide to come to Geneseo?
A: My parents and school counselors helped me sort through my college options, which was very beneficial because, honestly, I had no clue what I was doing. I only applied to schools in New York. Coming to Geneseo is one of the best decisions I've ever made! When I came to Geneseo for my campus visit, it felt like home—the general atmosphere and people in this quaint valley were great. Some of my older friends went to Geneseo, and they always had a great story about the college.

Q: What do you wish students apply to college knew about Geneseo?
A: Everyone belongs here. No two people's lives are the same, and Geneseo thrives on exploring every person's story by incorporating a vast array of cultures and themes on its campus and in its students. Becoming more in tune with myself has come from being at Geneseo. When I came to Geneseo in 2021, I had no idea who I was supposed to be, but now I'm discovering who I want to be.
