Study Abroad Course Articulation Database
What is it?
The Study Abroad Course Articulation Database displays courses that have already been evaluated and articulated as either a direct articulation to the SUNY Geneseo course catalog or a transfer articulation.
Courses that do not exist in the database must be articulated to be added to the database. Visit the the Study Abroad Course Approval and Credit Transfer website for a detailed explanation of how to initiate course articulation.
What is it not?
The database is not a comprehensive list of all courses offered at SUNY Geneseo study abroad partner institutions. It only contains courses that have already been evaluated and assigned an articulation. Go to the individual Horizons program page and read the information under Academics to discover a more comprehensive list of courses offered on a specific study abroad program.
The database also does NOT include courses offered on SUNY Geneseo faculty-led study abroad programs, as those are SUNY Geneseo courses that do not require articulation. Students can find the faculty-led program course listed on the respective Horizons program page.
Use it to help you choose the 'right' study abroad program
The Study Abroad Course Articulation Database is a valuable academic advisement tool for finding study abroad programs that offer courses that will help you satisfy your unmet degree requirements.
Use the database to find programs that offer specific courses you are looking for. Note that articulations displayed within the database are subject to change without prior notification.
If you are looking for a particular course - you can search by destination, institution, transfer course title, or SUNY Geneseo course title.
This video (requires SUNY Geneseo login) explains how to navigate the Study Abroad Course Articulation Database to maximize use of the platform and its search functionality.
Use it to complete the Study Abroad Course Approval and Credit Transfer Process
Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to ensure they understand their degree requirements as it relates to study abroad.
Every student who studies abroad, must complete a Course Planning Form. This process is explained in detail on the Study Abroad Course Approval and Credit Transfer website.
Courses included in the database are already evaluated and articulated by academic departments and do not require additional department evaluation. These courses should be listed on your Course Planning Form.
Many courses are displayed in the database as a 'transfer articulation', as denoted by the course subject code (i.e. ACCT, BIOL, PSYC, etc.) followed by 1TR, 2TR, 3TR, or 4TR which corresponds to 100-, 200-, 300, 400-level. Courses with a transfer articulation require departmental signature as they require a waiver to be applied to specific degree requirements.
When a course taken abroad is determined to be equivalent to a course in the SUNY Geneseo course bulletin, this is known as a ‘direct articulation' as denoted by an exact SUNY Geneseo course code (e.g. ACCT 301, BIOL 210, PSYC 268, etc.). Courses with a direct articulation generally do not require departmental signature as a waiver is not generally needed to ensure proper mapping of the course to a student's degree requirements.
