Study Abroad Photo Contest

• Submitters must be SUNY Geneseo students
• Photos must be taken during a Fall 2025 through and including Summer 2026 SUNY-sponsored study abroad/away program
• Must be new photos – cannot have submitted to a previous SUNY Geneseo Study Abroad Photo Contest
• One submission per category (maximum of 5 total photo submissions per person)
• File size: Must be minimum of 1.0 MB and maximum 100 MB.
• No panorama photos
• Submitters must be the photographer. Before submitting, make sure the photos you submit were taken by you. Do not submit photos taken by another person. If another person claims that a photo is theirs, the photo will be removed from the gallery until ownership can be proven.

By submitting via the Google Form, you must agree to the following:

I consent and authorize SUNY Geneseo College or any entity authorized by SUNY Geneseo College (such as the Geneseo Scene Magazine or Center for Global Engagement) to copyright, use and publish any of the images submitted through this form on this day. I understand these images may be used for a variety of purposes and may appear on the SUNY Geneseo website, the Geneseo Scene website, in the Geneseo Scene magazine, promotional materials or any other media now known or to be invented. I also understand that SUNY Geneseo College or any entity authorized by SUNY Geneseo will use the images exclusively for SUNY Geneseo-related purposes and not for any commercial gain. Since anyone can download an image from the Internet or make copies from printed materials, I agree that SUNY Geneseo is not responsible for unauthorized use of the images. I am aware that I am not entitled to any compensation and that the images may appear with or without my name.

Photo submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on the following criteria:

• How well the photo fits the category description
• Visual impact
• Technical excellence of the photo
• Creativity and originality of the photo
• Photos submitted to the Epiphany category will also be judged on the quality of the photographer’s written narrative

Winners from each category will be announced at the Gallery Opening.  Details below.

Photos have the power to tell stories and provide unique perspectives, therefore, it is important to be mindful of what messages your photos are conveying and to share them ethically.  Photos must be culturally appropriate and sensitive. 

Please do not submit photos that:

• Stereotype
• Disrespect
• Convey misrepresentations of the host country, people, or setting 

Try to share photos that capture the daily life of locals and are in the pursuit of cultural understanding.
