Located on the lower level of Merritt Athletic Center, the Workout Center is SUNY Geneseo's fitness area. The Weight Room is where current students, faculty, staff and guests must go to register. Staff at the main desk will help with registration, payment and scanning your hand. Logs for recording your workouts can be found in the rack in the lobby of the Weight Room and may be stored, alphabetically, in the file behind the main desk.
The main desk for registration/information is located in the Weight Room.
An extensive free weight area & a Nautilus Circuit are located in the Weight Room. Nine treadmills are also located in this area.
The Cardio Room is located adjacent to the Weight Room. The Cardio Room has elliptical machines, stair climbers, stationary bikes, rowers, and arc trainers. Swiss Balls, medicine balls, jump ropes and hand weights are also in the rear of the Cardio Room. There is a DVD player & a wall-mounted TV for those who wish to do their own workouts.
Tennis racquets and balls, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, kick balls and volleyballs may be signed out from the Cardio Room with a SUNY Geneseo Student ID. Students are responsible for loss or damage to equipment and damages will be billed to the student account of the individual who signed out the equipment.
Certified personal trainers, are available in the Workout Center for anyone who wants to improve their workouts or level of fitness. Their services are included in your membership. They will be available by appoinment only. To make an appointment check the Hours & Classes section for the personal trainer's email.
Exercise Classes are held in the Schrader Dance Studio (Located on the second floor of Schrader Sports & Recreation Building, above University Police) and other locations on campus. See the Hours & Classes section for class schedules.
Lockers and Locks
- Members have use of the main men's or women's locker rooms and showers.
- Locks and lockers are issued, free of charge, from the Main Desk of the Weight Room and are for use during the academic year. Faculty and staff may keep their lockers year-round, but students must clean their locker out each Spring semester (by graduation). Items left in lockers after graduation will be donated to Goodwill.
- Personal locks are not permitted for overnight use & will be removed!
Lost & Found
Clothing left in the Workout Center is donated to Goodwill after one week. Any other items (IDs, phones, wallets, etc.) found in the Workout Center are turned over to the University Police.
