Testing Center Policy and Guidelines
The OAS Testing Center offers testing support for students with approved testing accommodations. To ensure a smooth and positive experience, we kindly ask students and faculty to review and comply with these policies, as they are essential for maintaining daily operations of the testing center and are designed to protect academic integrity and equity for students at SUNY Geneseo.
Testing Center Responsibilities
- Collaborate with students and faculty to schedule exams.
- Notify students and faculty about the scheduled exam date, time, and duration via Accommodate or email.
- Protect academic integrity; all exams will be stored in a safe location until administration. Testing proctors will strictly adhere to the testing center policy and will not, in any circumstance, explain or interpret exam questions.
- Ensure all exams will be administered according to instructors’ preferences.
- Ensuring the Testing Center policies are closely observed and followed
Student Responsibilities
Scheduling and Appointments
- Students must schedule exams at least 72 business hours in advance.
- Students must schedule exams for the exact time their class begins, unless they have a direct course conflict or prior approval from their instructor.
- Testing appointments may not be booked on Fridays for the following Mondays.
Allowed Materials
- Students should bring their own calculators if allowed. The testing center has a limited number of basic calculators.
- Cell phones or any other electronic devices are not allowed unless indicated in their accommodations or approved by the professors.
- Drinks, snacks, and writing utensils brought with students are permitted in the testing room.
- The Testing Center only provides materials that are essential for testing, such as headphones, pencils, fidgets, scrap paper, calculators, etc.
- All unapproved materials must be stored outside of the testing room, including cellphones and Airpods.
During Your Exam
- Please be respectful of noise, as we need to maintain a quiet testing environment for all students.
- Test-takers may only ask Testing Center staff to clarify testing directions. If any other questions or issues arise while the test is in progress, the staff will reach out to the instructor.
- Breaks
- Breaks are allowed; however, the timer continues to run, so be mindful of break usage.
- Students should not have access to their non-essential belongings during breaks.
- All exams must be completed and turned in within the designated timeframe. Students are responsible for tracking their testing time independently.
Tardiness, Missed Exams, and Cancellations
- Instructors determine if a student who arrives late for their test booking appointment may begin their exam. Please note that the scheduled end time of your exam will not change due to late arrival.
- Students who do not show up for their scheduled exam will be treated as “no show”. Any make-up arrangements must be approved by the instructors.
- Students can cancel testing appointments anytime, however, instructor approval is required for rescheduling.
Academic Integrity
- All test takers must uphold principles of honesty, fairness, and responsibility in all academic work and testing activities.
- In the event of cheating, suspected of cheating, or plagiarising, unauthorized items will be confiscated and instructors will be notified immediately. Although students may be allowed to continue the test, they may be subject to disciplinary action, per the Geneseo Academic Dishonesty Policy and Procedures.
Faculty Responsibilities
- Faculty complete an exam form for students who request to take exams in the Testing Center. Exam forms need to be completed in advance of the exam date.
- Exams need to be provided to the Testing Center (via Accommodate, email, or in-person drop-off) at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled exam time. Please notify Testing Center staff if you need more time to prepare your exam, or if changes to the exam have been made.
- If exams are not provided 24 hours in advance, or there is no communication with Testing Center staff regarding the status of your exam, the faculty member is responsible for rescheduling with their students or providing the necessary testing accommodations independently.
Important Information on Finals for Faculty
- Due to the high volume of testing appointments during finals, we require students to submit test booking requests at least one week prior to the start of the finals period. Please communicate dates, length, and format of your final exams with your students in advance.
- We kindly ask you to fill out the exam form and provide copies of exams as soon as possible so we can prepare accordingly.
