The State University of New York College at Geneseo offers both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a minor in Black and Africana Studies. If you have comments or questions, please contact the coordinator, Susana Castillo-Rodriguez (castillos@geneseo.edu)

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Black and Africana Studies is designed for students who want to take an interdisciplinary approach to their education. Drawing from history, literature, the arts, the humanities, and social sciences, we explore the rich complexities of Africans and African diaspora peoples to promote equity, inclusion, and belonging. Preparing our students to begin facing a number of the challenges of living in an increasingly global and diverse world.

Our country is dealing with the legacies of slavery and Jim Crow, confronting the devastation of mass incarceration, and working to understand recent events in the light of white supremacy. This major is designed for students who wish to understand the culture, conditions, achievements, and struggles, both past and contemporary, of individuals within the African Diaspora.
