Palmer Food Services and Campus Auxiliary Services are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and high-performing individual for their paid summer 2021 internship position.  The successful candidate will gain knowledge of the key functional areas of the food service distribution industry by learning about the relationship between a broadline foodservice distributor and a local food service provider as well as a vast understanding of and exposure to the foodservice industry supply chain.


PALMER FOOD SERVICES is a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated, wholesale food service distributor based in Rochester, NY. Palmer’s is focused on providing independent restaurateurs and institutions with the finest quality products and services available in the marketplace. Palmer Foods currently has over 1,000 clients who purchase food service product from Palmer’s on a regular basis, servicing single-location and multi-unit independent restaurants in Upstate New York and the New York metropolitan tri-state area, casino and gaming establishments, K-12 and higher education organizations, regional multi-location restaurant franchises, food banks, and healthcare organizations. CAMPUS AUXILIARY SERVICES, known as CAS, is a not-for-profit company dedicated to serving the SUNY Geneseo campus. CAS provides several nonacademic services to SUNY Geneseo. While mostly known for their dining program, they also provide catering, laundry, cable, vending, ID, refuse and recycling, as well as a host of other services.

This position with Palmer Foods is intended for business leaders with an interest in operations, warehousing and distribution, supply chain management, marketing, sales, and financial administration. Participants will gain an understanding of the many facets of the supply chain continuum by working with an independent food service distributor and a local food service provider. The student who is selected will spend time training, shadowing, participating in projects and attending meetings in all key areas including sales, marketing, finance, operations, business intelligence and technology, and more. While the emphasis is on supply chain in the hospitality and food services management industry, knowledge is easily transferable to other industries.

The first segment of the internship (June – July) will involve working with Palmer Foods at their facilities in Rochester, New York (both the corporate office and warehouse are in Rochester). The intern will be responsible for transportation to Palmer’s facilities and other possible travel throughout NYS while working with Palmer Foods. Total time investment is approximately 320 hours.

The second portion of the internship (August – Mid-October) will involve working with Campus Auxiliary Services on the Geneseo campus. Interns will have a brief opportunity to work with each of the departments within the organization to see how the same principles learned while at Palmer’s are relevant here at Geneseo. Interns will have exposure to work with the business office, IT, dining services, human resource, marketing and supply chain management.

Total Time of Internship: 

Palmer's Foods/Partners     320 hours

Campus Auxiliary Services       80 hours

Paid Internship: $15.00/hr.

Key Knowledge Areas: Intern will engage in activities such as meetings, shadowing and learning across the key areas of the operations. The key areas include, but are not limited to –

  • Business Development – Wholesale Storage and Distribution - Marketing & Communications – Sales - Purchasing - Inventory Control - Finance & Accounting - Labor Management - Facilities Management - Disaster Planning - Regulatory Compliance - Leadership/Management - Contract Management


Minimum GPA 3.0

Intern must be able to provide their own transportation to Palmer's Food Services in Rochester during the summer portion of the internship. Fall portion of internship will take place on the SUNY Geneseo campus.


Ideal candidate will come from a business management/administration or finance curriculum with diverse subject studies in desired career path.

Consideration will be given to candidates that are involved in scholastic extracurricular activities
