Nic Elia (Biochem '23) Wins SUNYAC Elite 20 Award

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Geneseo's Nicholas Elia was honored on Saturday Mar 5 as this year's honoree in Ice Hockey.

Nic is a Biochemistry major in the class of 2023, holds a 4.00 GPA,  and is currently doing green chemistry research with Dr. Helms. His work focuses on the the synthesis of molecular scaffolds, such as 2-methylpyrido[2,3-b]pyrazin-3(4H)-one, 3-Methylpyrido[2,3-b]pyrazin-2(1H)-one, 3-Methylpyrido[3,4-b]pyrazin-2(1H)-one, and 2-Methylpyrido[3,4-b]pyrazin-3(4H)-one, that could find use in the various classes of pharmaceuticals used to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders.
