The State University of New York recognized Geneseo men’s lacrosse player Trevor Bollinger ’24, from Ithaca, NY, as the SUNY Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for Division III institutions. Two overall winners from each division were selected from student-athletes previously recognized as SUNY Scholar Athletes in 29 different sports from the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons.

Bollinger has a 4.0 cumulative GPA with a double major in chemistry and sociology. He was named USILA Honorable Mention All-American, selected to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team, named the SUNYAC Elite 20 Award Winner, earned CSC Academic All-District and Second-Team Academic All-America honors, was named the SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was a First-Team All-SUNYAC selection. He posted a team-high in caused turnovers (35) and was second in ground balls (68), only trailing the face-off specialist.

“Balancing education and athletics is no small feat,” says SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. “With a sheer determination to succeed, each of the student-athletes selected has achieved that balance and shown a commitment to their sport and their studies. I cannot stress enough the weight of the phrase ‘student-athlete. Each individual is a student first, and it is an honor for me and for SUNY to bestow this award to each of the student-athletes.”

Individuals were nominated and voted upon by representatives of their respective institutions. Those put forward had their academic and athletic achievements reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across the SUNY system.
