SUNY Geneseo received the 2026 Highly Established Action Plan Seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. This recognition honors campuses that implement innovative strategies to promote nonpartisan democratic engagement and increase student voter participation.
SUNY Geneseo is among 233 campuses nationwide recognized with this seal for the 2026 election cycle. Geneseo’s 2026 Democratic Engagement Action Plan scored 29.3 out of 32 points, exceeding the national average score of 25.7 and earning higher-than-average marks across every scored category.
Advancing democratic values and civic responsibility is central to SUNY Geneseo’s mission. Through campus-wide collaboration, Geneseo expands opportunities for students to become informed and engaged citizens, including voter registration, civic learning, voter education, and election access.
“During the 2024 election cycle, Geneseo hosted nonpartisan civic engagement programs such as voter registration drives, candidate forums, documentary screenings, debate watch parties, faculty panels, Constitution Day events, and the inaugural Pie in the Face for Democracy event, which drew more than 200 student participants,” says Nicholas Palumbo, director of student affairs assessment, research, and innovation. “These initiatives provided meaningful opportunities for student engagement in the democratic process.”
A cornerstone of Geneseo’s approach to civic engagement is the on-campus polling located in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom, established through collaboration among the departments of Student Engagement, Academic Affairs, and Facilities Services, as well as the Livingston County Board of Elections. “On-campus polling enhances choice, equity, and access during elections,” says Palumbo.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a nonpartisan, national initiative that recognizes and supports colleges and universities as they work to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and student voter participation. ALL IN does not support or oppose candidates for public office or take positions for or against political parties. Instead, the organization works to empower students to become active and informed participants in American democracy.
