Planting a food forest on campus, exploring issues of hunger and vaccination, and designing a literature-based curriculum for public schools that represents students of color are among several inquiries the 2022 Geneseo Student Ambassadors will make.

The Center for Integrative Learning recently announced eight 2022 ambassadors, who each receive an award up to $5,000 to support their projects. The students designed the projects and combine independent learning, innovative approaches to problem-solving and community-based action, and are funded by private and organization donors, including several alumni.

This year, five ambassador projects focus on aspects of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which have been adopted by the College and an ever-growing number of governments, businesses and nonprofits worldwide to address hunger, poverty, health, conservation and other issues.

Lauren Goulet '22 and Brendan Shortt '23, who are interns in the Office of Sustainability, are planting a food forest on campus, which will supply small harvests in all seasons. Other projects focus on addressing student food security on campus, exploration and education of sustainable growing practices and creating an oral hygiene campaign in New York City's Chinatown. Francheska Colon '23 will focus her efforts on creating a curriculum for public schools that represents students of color, through film and writings.
