Dance

Open Call for Geneseo Dance Ensemble (GDE) will take place on Wednesday, August 27 in the Brodie Dance Studio 152 from 5:30-7:30 pm with Student Assistant Directors (SADS) Natalie Biehl-Narvaez, Morgan Comstock, Sabrina LaRosa, Julia Lingenfelter, and Samantha Vanderwerf. Our Guest Artist in Residence, Sonia Dawkins will hold intensive rehearsals beginning September 3, 2025 at 5:00-7:00 pm in the Brodie Dance Studio 152.
Casting will take place directly after Open Call. Both our Faculty Artists: Alissa Bachand, Deborah Scodese-French, Jonette Lancos, Allison Thomashefski, and our Guest Artist: Sonia Dawkins with our Student Artists: Natalie Biehl-Narvaez, Amelia Caselnova, Payton Clark, Morgan Comstock, Sabrina LaRosa, Julia Lingenfelter, Cadence Panol, and Samantha Vanderwerf will cast dancers for their new works.

There is a single audition for both the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Festival Singers. All students who wish to sing in either choir, both returning and new, must audition annually. Auditions occur at the beginning of each semester. You do not need to prepare special music. If you do have a prepared NYSSMA or musical theatre solo, please attend the Tuesday audition with sheet music for the accompanist.

Auditions for MUSC 141, 241, and 341 Voice Class for the General Student:
- Monday, Aug. 25, 1:00-2:30pm, Brodie 114
- Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1:00-2:30pm, Brodie 114
Auditions consist of vocalization, range check, and pitch recognition. It is not necessary to bring any music to the audition. If you cannot make either day/time please contact Prof. Joan Floriano. (florianoj@geneseo.edu) or Prof. Kara Cornell (kcornell@geneseo.edu).
Voice classes meet weekly and are approximately 8-12 students. Each class is one credit. The classes cover folk songs (American or British), pieces from the Great American Songbook, representations from the American Musical Theatre post 1970, and other repertoire at the discretion of the instructor. Students learn the pieces together and the pieces are performed individually. Students learn and are assessed on all components of singing (breath management, resonance/tone quality, language production and delivery and emotional interpretation). There are two writing assignments and a listening assignment.

Prepare two short selections of contrasting styles that best demonstrate your strengths. Pieces may be from solo OR ensemble music.

Location: All auditions in Wadsworth Auditorium
For all instruments, please choose between either “Take the ‘A’ Train” or “Blues for Alice.” If you would like to improvise during the audition, you are more than welcome, but it isn’t required.
For the Rhythm Section audition, bassists and drummers need only walk and keep time throughout the head of the tunes. Piano and guitar should prepare the melody.
Wind Instruments, please prepare the written excerpt for your instrument to play in the audition. For Rhythm Section, you will have material in the audition to sight read.
