Dance

Geneseo Dance Ensemble (GDE) Open Call (Wednesday, Jan. 28)

Open Call for Geneseo Dance Ensemble (GDE) will take place on Wednesday, January 28 in the Brodie Dance Studio 152 from 5:30-7:30 pm.

  • 5:30 – Ballet/Point
  • 6:00 – Modern / Jazz / Other styles

Casting and rehearsal scheduling will take place directly after Open Call from 7:30-9:30pm

Chamber Singers and Festival Singers (Tuesday, Jan. 20)

There is a single audition for both the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Festival Singers. All students who wish to sing in either choir, both returning and new, must audition annually. Auditions occur at the beginning of each semester. You do not need to prepare special music. If you do have a prepared NYSSMA or musical theatre solo, please attend the Tuesday audition with sheet music for the accompanist.

When: Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 4-5:30pm in Brodie 208.

Voice Class (Tuesday, Jan. 20-Wednesday, Jan. 21)

Auditions for MUSC 141, 241, and 341 Voice Class for the General Student:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 20, 11:30-1:0pm, Brodie 114
  • Wednesday, Jan. 21, 11:30-12:30pm, Brodie 114

Auditions consist of vocalization, range check, and pitch recognition. It is not necessary to bring any music to the audition. If you cannot make either day/time please contact Prof. Joan Floriano. (florianoj@geneseo.edu) or Prof. Kara Cornell (kcornell@geneseo.edu).

Voice classes meet weekly and are approximately 8-12 students. Each class is one credit. The classes cover folk songs (American or British), pieces from the Great American Songbook, representations from the American Musical Theatre post 1970, and other repertoire at the discretion of the instructor. Students learn the pieces together and the pieces are performed individually. Students learn and are assessed on all components of singing (breath management, resonance/tone quality, language production and delivery and emotional interpretation). There are two writing assignments and a listening assignment.

Geneseo Symphony Orchestra (Wednesday, Jan. 21)

Prepare two short selections of contrasting styles that best demonstrate your strengths. Pieces may be from solo OR ensemble music.

When and Where to Audition: Wednesday, Jan. 21, 3:00-5:00pm in Wadsworth Auditorium.

Jazz Ensemble (Tuesday, Jan. 20)

Jazz Audition for Spring 2026 will take place on Tuesday 1/20 from 6:30 to 8pm in Wadsworth Auditorium.

For your audition, please arrive 5 minutes before your audition time to warm up and prepare for the audition. Auditions will consist of playing through only the audition sheet. 

If you were in the ensemble in the Fall Term, please inform the director of your intention to re-enroll, and you will automatically be placed back into the ensemble without an audition.
