Joseph Morelle ‘86 is the recipient of a 2023 Rochester Business Journal Icon Honors Award.
The Icon Honors recognition acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership both within their fields and in their community engagements.
Morelle earned a BA in political science from Geneseo in 1986 and went on to serve in the Monroe County Legislature and the New York State Assembly, where he served as majority leader from 2013-2018.
In 2018, Morelle was elected to the United States House of Representatives for New York’s 25th congressional district.
A lifelong resident of Upstate New York, Morelle still has strong ties to the Geneseo community. Last year, he visited campus to speak with political science students about the impact of public service. He recently participated in SUNY Day DC, an annual advocacy event in which SUNY leaders and researchers work with the federal government to bolster SUNY campus priorities.
