The Counseling Services Team was a proud recipient of the College’s AIM Award this past academic year. The Advancing Our Institutional Mission (AIM) Awards recognize dedicated faculty and staff members who embody and foster the achievement of the College’s mission. The award was presented at the Annual Employee, Retiree, and Service Recognition Event held on May 7, 2026.
One key accomplishment was that full-time counseling clinicians completed CAMS-CARE training, an evidence-based framework for assessing and treating suicide risk. This milestone was especially significant given that during the 2025-26 academic year, 29% of students seeking treatment from our office reported some level of suicidal ideation.
Other notable achievements for the 2025-26 academic year:
- Counseling Services debuted the W.E.L.L at Geneseo certificate program. In its first year, W.E.L.L. (Well-being Education for Leaders in Learning) saw five faculty and staff complete all three courses and twenty complete two.
- Weekly Mindful Yoga for Mental Health saw an over 30% increase in student participation from the prior academic year, with 100% of survey respondents saying they enjoyed these classes and 80% reporting that the classes contributed positively to their well-being.
- Counseling Service again hosted an annual Mental Health Town Hall in March 2026, facilitating an informational session and a lively discussion amongst participants.
- In October 2025, Counseling Services hosted Geneseo’s first Fresh Check Day, engaging about 300 students in interactive mental health education and suicide prevention activities.
This academic year Counseling Services Team has plans to increase their focus on being a health-promoting counseling center. The team has reflected on how our policies, procedures, practices, and programming can best contribute to individual and community well-being. They have many new and updated offerings planned for the coming year, including a weekly Wellness Workshop series.
