Logo Definitions
Lockup
The lockup includes all the elements mentioned below as well as the State University of New York (SUNY) tagline. All of the included elements are situated in a specific format, or in a locked-up position.

Wordmark
The wordmark is the graphic treatment of a brand name using text only. Another name for this mark is a logotype.

Brandmark
The brandmark is a symbol or icon used to represent the brand without the use of text (established year of 1871 does not qualify as accompanying text). This mark is also referred to as the Sturges icon.

Designation Graphic
The designation of SUNY Geneseo as “New York’s Public Honors College” is what differentiates SUNY Geneseo from other colleges. The graphic treatment for this designation cannot be used without any of the logo brand elements.

Secondary Logo

Secondary logo in white
The SUNY Geneseo secondary logo is similar to the primary logo—it includes all the brand elements, but the logo is formatted vertically rather than horizontally. This version should only be used when the space for the logo requires a vertically formatted graphic.

College Seal

Two color

One color
The official SUNY Geneseo college seal was designed in 1968 by Martin Moskof, of Martin Moskof and Associates of New York City. The symbolism within the elements of the seal is described as follows:
“The circular design features a yellow flame from the torch of knowledge surrounded by leaves symbolic of the bucolic setting of Geneseo State and its growth. Both of these are atop waves symbolizing the historic Genesee River.”
The seal is only used for official ceremonial events, such as Commencement, Convocation, and presidential inaugurations, and for formal documents and materials for the Office of the President. Anyone who would like to use the college seal outside those areas must receive approval from the Office of Communications and Marketing.
