Meet the Staff

Samuel Cardamone

Samuel Cardamone, Director

Sam Cardamone serves as the Director of the Study Abroad Office.  Since July 2012, Sam has been fortunate to serve in many roles in the SUNY Geneseo Study Abroad Office including Study Abroad Advisor, Assistant Director, and Associate Director.  As Director, he oversees the strategic direction of the Study Abroad Office as well as the fiscal and managerial health of the office.

Sam earned his Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel Administration and his undergraduate degree in Adolescent Math Education, both from Canisius College.  As an undergraduate student, his first international experience was to Mexico City for a service immersion program, followed by a semester abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Sippy Downs, Australia, and a year spent teaching abroad on the island of Weno in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.

Sam and his partner, Lisa, enjoy hiking and both are committed to becoming Adirondack 46'ers.

Emily Cole

Emily Cole, Associate Director

Emily Cole is the Associate Director of Study Abroad at SUNY Geneseo where she has worked since Fall 2016. Emily's role in the Study Abroad Office includes managing faculty-led programs and matters of health and safety.

Prior to joining SUNY Geneseo, Emily spent three years serving as the Coordinator for International Study Opportunities at the University Of New Haven. Emily has a master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College and a graduate certificate in International Education Management through SUNY Albany.

In her free time, you can find Emily cooking, reading, and spending time doing outdoor activities like biking and hiking. A favorite travel memory for Emily is climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan at night.

Thressa Zimmerman, Study Abroad Advisor

Thressa Zimmerman is the Interim Study Abroad Advisor at SUNY Geneseo, a position she has occupied since the Fall of 2019. Thressa oversees host-institution programs and assists with health and safety. Previous to this role, Thressa served as a graduate intern in the Study Abroad Office during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Thressa received her master's in Higher Education and Study Affairs Administration from Canisius College and her bachelor's in History from St. Lawrence University. During her time at SLU, she studied abroad in Kenya, interned in Rwanda, and traveled with her choir during Spring Breaks, including twice to the Caribbean. She has also traveled frequently to visit her family in Germany.

When not looking at flights to get back to Western Europe or Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa or to visit literally any new country, Thressa can be found knitting, hiking, or with her nose stuck in a book.

Weston Kennison

Weston Kennison, Faculty Fellow

Wes Kennison is our Faculty Fellow for International Programs.

Wes is a member of the Geneseo Class of '79 where he majored in English and minored in Medieval Studies.  As a student, he studied abroad in England and Italy before study abroad was really a thing.  Since 1988, Wes has served on the Geneseo faculty with the Department of English and the Department of Languages and Literatures, teaching Humanities, Latin, Poetry, and Service Learning.  In 2009, he came to work in the study abroad office.  He has led study abroad abroad programs and alumni groups in Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Greece, China, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

Jessica Fenn

Jess Fenn, Faculty Fellow

Jess Fenn works with the Study Abroad office to create opportunities for students to reflect on their study abroad experiences before, during, and after travel. A graduate of Swarthmore College with a B.A. in English, Jess received a Master’s in Teaching from Hollins University and a doctorate in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. As faculty in the English Department at Geneseo, Jess teaches introductory and advanced workshops in creative writing, as well as literature classes in medieval literature, literary theory, and Women’s and Gender Studies. In addition to making a home in many places within the continental United States, Jess has lived in Alaska, Thailand, Burma, and England, and visits Iceland frequently.

Lynda VanDurme

Lynda VanDurme, Secretary

Lynda has worked at Geneseo for 20 years and in the Study Abroad Office since 2017. She works primarily with transcripts, course approval forms and exchange student applications. She has experience in purchasing, financial aid and has worked at the Department of Social Services and in hospital billing. Trying new things, visiting places for the first time and shopping are among her interests, but spending time with her grandchildren tops the list.
