Meet the Staff
Samuel Cardamone, Interim Director
Sam Cardamone serves as the Interim Director of the Study Abroad Office. Since July 2012, Sam has been fortunate to serve in many roles in the SUNY Geneseo Study Abroad Office including Study Abroad Advisor, Assistant Director, and Associate Director. As Interim Director, he oversees the strategic direction of the Study Abroad Office as well as the fiscal and managerial health of the office.
Sam earned his Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel Administration and his undergraduate degree in Adolescent Math Education, both from Canisius College. As an undergraduate student, his first international experience was to Mexico City for a service immersion program, followed by a semester abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Sippy Downs, Australia, and a year spent teaching abroad on the island of Weno in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.
Sam and his partner, Lisa, enjoy hiking and both are committed to becoming Adirondack 46'ers.
Emily Froome-Kuntz, Assistant Director
Emily Froome-Kuntz is Assistant Director of Study Abroad. She works mostly with faculty-led programs, program finances, and risk management. Emily has worked in the Study Abroad Office in a professional capacity since May 2010. She worked in the Study Abroad office as a student assistant from 2008 to 2010.
Emily has a BA in Anthropology from SUNY Geneseo, Class of 2010, and a graduate certificate in Project Management from Empire State College. Her first international experience was on a high school language program to Costa Rica. During her undergraduate studies, Emily studied abroad in Ecuador and Western Canada. Since working in the Study Abroad Office, Emily has visited Geneseo's partners in the Netherlands (University of Groningen), South Korea (Sogang University), and Nicaragua. She has served as program administrator for the following faculty-led study abroad and alumni programs: Humanities 220 in Athens (Summer 2011), BIOL 314 in Belize (Intersession 2018), The Alumni Travel Program in Ireland (2015), and BIOL 344 in Ghana (Summers 2017 and 2018). She has traveled independently in France, Italy, Germany, England, and Scotland.
Emily Cole, Senior Study Abroad Advisor
Emily Cole is the Senior Study Abroad Advisor at SUNY Geneseo where she has worked since Fall 2016. Emily's role in the Study Abroad Office includes providing study abroad advisement, assisting students going on a portfolio of host-institution programs, and assisting with faculty-led study abroad programs.
Prior to joining SUNY Geneseo, Emily spent three years serving as the Coordinator for International Study Opportunities at the University Of New Haven. Emily has a master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College and a graduate certificate in International Education Management through SUNY Albany.
In her free time, you can find Emily cooking, reading, and spending time doing outdoor activities like biking and hiking. A favorite travel memory for Emily is climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan at night.
Weston Kennison, Faculty Fellow
Wes Kennison is our Faculty Fellow for International Programs.
Wes is a member of the Geneseo Class of '79 where he majored in English and minored in Medieval Studies. As a student, he studied abroad in England and Italy before study abroad was really a thing. Since 1988, Wes has served on the Geneseo faculty with the Department of English and the Department of Languages and Literatures, teaching Humanities, Latin, Poetry, and Service Learning. In 2009, he came to work in the study abroad office. He has led study abroad abroad programs and alumni groups in Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Greece, China, Nicaragua, and Haiti.
Jess Fenn, Faculty Fellow
Jess Fenn works with the Study Abroad office to create opportunities for students to reflect on their study abroad experiences before, during, and after travel. A graduate of Swarthmore College with a B.A. in English, Jess received a Master’s in Teaching from Hollins University and a doctorate in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. As faculty in the English Department at Geneseo, Jess teaches introductory and advanced workshops in creative writing, as well as literature classes in medieval literature, literary theory, and Women’s and Gender Studies. In addition to making a home in many places within the continental United States, Jess has lived in Alaska, Thailand, Burma, and England, and visits Iceland frequently.
Lynda VanDurme, Secretary
Lynda has worked at Geneseo for 20 years and in the Study Abroad Office since 2017. She works primarily with transcripts, course approval forms and exchange student applications. She has experience in purchasing, financial aid and has worked at the Department of Social Services and in hospital billing. Trying new things, visiting places for the first time and shopping are among her interests, but spending time with her grandchildren tops the list.
