Technical Services

Student Association (SA) Technical Services provides sound, stage, lighting, and projection support and advice for student events. The tech crew is made up of students hired on a yearly basis and trained in the many aspects of event management and technical reinforcement.

Arrangements must be made at least two (2) weeks prior to the event with the Assistant Director of the College Union and Activities or online at www.geneseo.edu/~techserv. Qualified technicians must accompany all SA equipment throughout setup, performance, and strike (takedown). The fees for this service are as follows:

Student Organizations - $11.00/hour per technician
Academic and Administrative Offices - $13.00/hour per technician
Outside Conferences - $15.00/hour per technician

Late Fees: if request is received within 2 weeks of the event - $75; within 1 week - $100; within 48 hours  - $150

SA equipment rental fees may be charged to Academic and Administrative Offices and Outside Conferences.

Telephone Service

On-Campus Students:

CIT Telephone Services provides the following telephone service in your Residence Hall room:

  • Free Local Calling (please see Local Calling Exchanges on our website as not all calls in the 585 area code are local)
  • Free Unlimited Incoming Calls
  • Campus provided telephone equipment and repair

Outgoing long distance phone calls (including International calls) require a pre-paid calling card.  Pre-paid phone calling cards can be purchased through most retailers and through Follett Bookstore in the MacVittie College Union on campus.  Be sure to select a card that has a toll free access phone number.

Textbooks

Incoming students are encouraged to preorder their textbooks online from the Geneseo University Bookstore, SUNY Geneseo's official source for textbooks. The Geneseo University Bookstore website (www.geneseo.bkstr.com) shows real time inventory for used books, allowing you to purchase used books whenever possible. Books can also be purchased directly from the store, located in the MacVittie College Union. Freshmen are encouraged to pickup their books from the store on move-in day. The Geneseo University Bookstore will also buy back books at the end of the semester depending upon local need and national demand.

The Geneseo University Bookstore accepts every major credit card, checks, cash, and the Campus Cash Account. School supplies, gifts, art supplies, Geneseo apparel, and many other items are also available at the store.

Ticket Office

The Student Association operates a box office that provides ticketing and sales services for student organizations. Most Activities Commission ticket sales are run through the Ticket Office. The Vacation Bus Program, Airport Shuttle, and Fax Service are also administered through the Ticket Office. In addition, for on-site sales, cash boxes are available. The Ticket Office is located on the first level of the MacVittie Union, Room 113. For information contact the SA Services Manager at (585) 245-5873.

Transcripts

Students may authorize the Registrar to send official transcripts of their permanent records to persons and organizations they designate. All such requests must be in writing and must be signed. Requests may be made in person, mailed or faxed (585-245-5530) to the Registrar's Office, Erwin 102, or be made on-line through Knightweb (see Registrar's Office).

One official transcript will be sent without charge; subsequent requests require payment in advance of $5.00 per official transcript sent off campus or presented to students. Unofficial transcripts may be requested at the Records Office for 50 cents a copy. If the request is faxed, payment must be made through one of the following credit cards: Visa, Master Card, or Discover. Please include the account number and expiration date, and your address and phone number with the request. Requests for transcripts are honored only for students who have no outstanding financial obligations to the College and who are not delinquent in repayment of student loans.

Transportation

Geneseo is located 30 miles south of Rochester, New York. Although many students come here by car, transportation via bus and taxi service is available between Geneseo and Rochester. Rochester is serviced by the Greater Rochester International Airport, Amtrak train station, and Midtown bus terminal. Visit the College’s Transportation Services web site http://transportation.geneseo.edu for a list of related area travel links including travel programs offered by the Student Association.

Locally Geneseo Travel, a division of Carlson Wagonlit Travel and located at Main and Center Streets, sells airline, bus and train tickets, and the bus stop for the Trailways route through Geneseo is located there.

Student Association provides transportation programs before and after college break periods (Fall, Thanksgiving, Semester and Spring breaks) via vacation buses to downstate areas and free airport shuttles based on several Jet Blue flights to New York City.
