How to Apply to the MS in Accounting Program

Below are the the application requirements for the MS in Accounting program at SUNY Geneseo. Applications will not be reviewed until all required materials are submitted.

GMAT Requirement Waived

SUNY Geneseo will waive the GMAT requirement for applicants who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater and earn, or expect to earn prior to entering our program, an accounting bachelor's degree within the last five years from an AACSB-accredited institution.

  • Send checks and money orders, made payable to SUNY Geneseo, to the address at the top of this page.
  • Contact the Office of Graduate Admissions to find out how to receive an application fee waiver.
Official transcript(s)
  • Required from all institutions of higher education attended.
  • If you are a SUNY Geneseo student or alumnus, the Office of Graduate Admissions will obtain your transcript for you.
  • If you have transferred credit to the institution you received your degree from and it appears on your transcript, we do not need a transcript from the transfer institution.
Test scores
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

  • The GMAT requirement is waived for applicants who satisfy both of the following:
    • Earned, or expect to earn prior to entering our program, an accounting bachelor's degree within the last five years from an AACSB-accredited institution.
    • Achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater.
  • Request your scores be sent directly to the address at the top of this page.
Letters of recommendation
  • Letters of recommendation from two persons who can attest to the academic potential for graduate study and personal character of the applicant, one of which must be completed by a faculty member who has taught you.
  • In addition, each writer must complete and submit the recommendation form.

The Office of Admissions does not require a particular form for letters of recommendation. If you already have a digital placement file established through an online vendor such as Interfolio, or if you are a Geneseo alumnus with a graduation date of 2012 or earlier and had established a placement file with the SUNY Geneseo Career Design Center before you graduated, you need to contact either Interfolio or the Career Design Center, respectively, to facilitate the transfer of your placement file to the Office of Admissions.

Waivers
  • The GMAT requirement is waived for applicants who satisfy both of the following:
    • Earned, or expect to earn prior to entering our program, an accounting bachelor's degree within the last five years from an AACSB-accredited institution.
    • Achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater.
Proof of English Proficiency (international students only)

The International Admission Committee requires that all students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Official results from the following English proficiency exams are accepted:

  • TOEFL (Internet-based minimum score: 75)
    • Institution Code: 2540
  • IELTS (minimum score of 6.5 overall; no section can be below 6.0)
  • PTE (minimum 58)
  • iTEP (minimum 3.7)
  • MET (minimum  53)
  • Eiken Grade Pre-1
  • Duolingo English Test (minimum 105)
  • Cambridge English
  • Skills for English (CEFR B2 w/ merit)

If you are transferring from a college or university within the United States, successful completion of at least 2 full semesters of academic coursework (24 credit hours) with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 may be a sufficient demonstration of English proficiency.

Application deadlines

Application deadlines for the MS in Accounting program are as follows:

September 1 - Early Action (non-binding) for Fall admittance
June 1 - Regular decision for Fall admittance*
