SUNY Geneseo makes another appearance in the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Inclusion in the guide as a “best and most interesting” college is based on the quality of academic offerings and includes students’ social and quality-of-life ratings.

Fiske's 2020 edition says that “Geneseo is a preferred option for New Yorkers who want the feel of a private liberal arts college at a public school price.”

It also takes notice of Geneseo’s strong curriculum and personal attention. “Given its size, professors can provide the kind of personal attention normally seen only at private liberal arts colleges; because of its public status, that attention comes at a bargain price,” the guide concludes. “These factors have made it more difficult to get in — and, it turns out, getting in is only half the battle. ‘Students are very serious about their education,’ says a sophomore. ‘Once you are here, you must work hard.’”

Fiske Guide to Colleges was created by former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske, who launched the guide to provide better information on educational choices for college-bound students and their families.
