Dr. Karleen West, professor of political science and international relations and faculty assistant to the dean of arts and sciences at SUNY Geneseo, has earned international recognition for her participation in the United Nations–certified Academic Leadership Suite (ALS), an elite executive program designed for high-impact academic leaders shaping the future of global education.

Hosted at the United Nations Office in Geneva and delivered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in partnership with Ureka Education, the Academic Leadership Suite is described as “an exclusive four-day executive program… designed for forward-thinking academic leaders.”

West joined a select cohort of senior faculty and education decision-makers from around the world for intensive training in academic governance, AI-driven educational innovation, crisis leadership, and international policy engagement. The program blended strategic insight with practical application, offering participants “actionable frameworks in academic leadership, AI-driven education, and institutional innovation.”

A Global Platform for Leadership

As part of Global Education Week at UNITAR Geneva, West participated in high-level dialogues with Ministry of Education officials, policymakers, and international experts. The program included a full day at the Global Education Summit, providing a rare opportunity to participate in high-level discussions, gain first-hand insight into global education priorities, and build meaningful connections.”

West also received access to the UN’s flagship AI for Good Global Summit, the world’s largest gathering focused on artificial intelligence for social impact.

Professor West completed the UN-sponsored Academic Leadership Suite, advancing Geneseo’s mission and values.
