Student Ambassadorship Program

Student Ambassadorships are $5,000 awards that support a student-designed project in independent learning and innovative results. Projects may include travel, internship, research, community service, entrepreneurship or other activities and should result in identifiable and transformative results for the individual student and the community.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Ability to work successfully in a self-directed project
  2. Demonstrated interest in innovation, leadership, and community values
  3. Willingness to participate in the Student Advisory Board of the Center in 2016-17
  4. Willingness to give a presentation on the funded project to the Geneseo community
  5. Must be returning to Geneseo full-time for Fall 2016

Applications must include: 

  1. The completed application cover form.
  2. A personal statement (3 pages/1000 words max) describing your motivation for the project, the qualities that suit you for the project, and the learning you expect as a result of the project.
  3. A project proposal (3 pages/1000 words max) that includes a description of your project, a timeline for your work, and a budget (view a budget template)Funds may be used for stipend, materials and supplies, travel expenses, etc.; see attached template. You may attach a budget explanation if you do not have specifics for all items yet. Please also identify any campus or community mentors you expect to consult. Work and funding for the project can begin as early as May 15, 2016, and should be completed no later than December 31, 2016. 
  4. A current resumé. 
  5. Names and contact information for two faculty or staff at Geneseo who will supply letters of recommendation. Letters should comment on your ability to work independently and your capacity for innovation and leadership. Letters shouldl be submitted separately to the CIDD, Doty 303 or to Additional letters from community partners may also be submitted.

Selection Process

Review of applications and recommendations will be carried out by the Center's Community Cabinet (.pdf)  Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
1. Innovative potential of the central idea of the project
2. Probability of individual growth in capacity for inquiry, discovery, and leadership
3. Quality and clarity of application
4. Feasibility of the project in the time frame identified
