Kathryn Scarbrough is Adjunct Lecturer of Flute and a member of the Faculty Woodwind Quintet at the State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo. She spends her summers as Guest Faculty for The Artistic Flutist: Bonita Boyd International Flute Masterclass at The Eastman School of Music, Flutist with the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra at the New England Conservatory of Music, and Flute Faculty at the Csehy Summer School of Music at Cairn University in Philadelphia.
As soloist and collaborator premiering new solo and chamber works for the flute canon, Ms. Scarbrough has accepted invitations to perform at The National Flute Association, Inc. Annual Conventions in Washington (DC), Minneapolis, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Pittsburgh, and at the Rochester Flute Association Flute Fair (NY), Mid-Atlantic Flute Conference, and the International Low Flute Festival. She has also had the privilege of performing numerous times on Live from Hochstein (NPR Rochester) and the Eastman School's Women in Music Festival. She collaborates with esteemed flutists Ali Ryerson, Chris Potter, Peter Sheridan, Tereasa Payne, Wendy Stern, and Nan Raphael, and composers Bill Dobbins, Cary Ratcliffe, Sun Mi Ro, Russell Scarbrough, and William
Kleinsasser.
A passionate pedagogue and sought-after adjudicator, Ms. Scarbrough's students have furthered their studies, often as scholarship recipients, at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Texas at Austin, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Ohio State University, Arizona State University Herberger School for the Arts, Marina Piccinini International Masterclass, Julius Baker International Masterclass, Wild Acres Flute Retreat, Interlochen Summer Camp as well as other prominent schools of music and flute classes throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She also spent 11 years as Flute Faculty, Scholarship Flute Choir Director, Co-Chair of the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Department, and Assistant Dean of Students at the David G. Hochstein Memorial School of Music & Dance in Rochester, NY.
She holds the degrees of Master of Music in Flute Performance from Arizona State University School of Music and Bachelor of Science in Flute Performance from Towson University - both with high distinction, and was principal flute/piccolo in the US Marine Corps Band in Quantico, VA from 1997-99. Ms. Scarbrough spent her formative years as an honors student at the Peabody Preparatory Institute - Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. Her primary teachers and mentors include Gail Cameron, Sara Nichols (Landgren), Trygve Peterson.
Kathryn lives in Rochester, New York with husband, jazz composer and trombonist, Russell Scarbrough where the two collaborate often on his new compositions and published works for flute (Falls House Press, Tetractys Publishing).
