When the new nature center at Letchworth State Park officially opened last fall, it opened a whole new set of opportunities for research, hands-on learning and volunteering for Geneseo.

As part of the five-year cooperative agreement, the college is helping to develop and identify educational opportunities, research and environmental restoration projects, programming and exhibits at the new center.

On Wednesday, March 1, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Newton 202, there is an information session for faculty, students and staff who may be interested in teaching, learning, conducting research or contributing their time to a project in the park.

President Denise A. Battles will open the session, followed by background on the collaboration by Jim Kernan, Associate Professor and Sponsored Professor of the Letchworth Partnership, who will also announce a new development.

Elijah Kruger, the Humphrey Nature Center naturalist, will discuss student opportunities.

The advisory committee for the partnership hopes to expand on programming so far, which included a new course for incoming freshmen that was run at Letchworth last summer and will be offered again in August. Kernan taught a directed study last semester with five students, and will work with two summer interns who will work with the park’s wildlife biologist and naturalist.
