SUNY Geneseo has appointed Ann Monroe-Baillargeon, PhD, as the dean for the Ella Cline Shear School of Education (SOE), effective January 29, 2026. She comes to Geneseo from Houghton University (NY), where she served most recently as associate provost and director of online programs.

Monroe-Baillargeon has held leadership and faculty roles at Buena Vista University (IA), University of Saint Joseph (CT), Alfred University (NY), and Nazareth University (NY). She brings 15 years of experience in K–12 education as a teacher and administrator and holds permanent New York certifications in both teaching and administration.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Monroe-Baillargeon to SUNY Geneseo as the dean for the School of Education,” says Mary C. Toale, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “She is a lifelong advocate for liberal arts education and equity in access, and her vision aligns with Geneseo’s mission to prepare educators who improve society through teaching grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. Her collaborative leadership style and proven record in strategic growth will be instrumental as the School of Education advances its academic offerings and partnerships.”

“It is an honor to be named dean for the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at New York's public liberal arts honors college, which offers students a distinctive environment where teacher education is deeply integrated with the liberal arts,” says Monroe-Baillargeon. “I look forward to getting to know and working closely with the outstanding students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the School of Education as we build upon SUNY Geneseo’s distinguished legacy of academic excellence and teacher preparation. I am committed to Geneseo’s mission to deliver a distinctive, equity-centered, public liberal arts honors experience.”

As dean, Monroe-Baillargeon will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the school’s two new academic departments, the field experience office, and support staff. She will also serve as a member of the provost’s executive leadership team and collaborate with the deans for the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Business to drive curriculum innovation and explore opportunities in graduate, certificate, and online education.

Monroe-Baillargeon earned her bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Southern Maine, and her doctoral degree in teaching and curriculum from Syracuse University.

Monroe-Baillargeon's recruitment was conducted by a campus search committee chaired by Julie Troman, coordinator of school placements in the School of Education, and Matthew Pastizzo, director for institutional research and effectiveness and associate professor of psychology, in consultation with the ACES search firm. Monroe-Baillargeon will succeed Jeanne Galbraith, associate professor of inclusive early childhood education, who has served as interim dean since August 2024.
