Department of Music Presents Haydn's Creation

GENESEO, N.Y. –– The Geneseo Department of Music is thrilled to present Geneseo Festival Chorus and Geneseo Symphony Orchestra in their performance of composer’s Haydn’s epic masterpiece, “The Creation” on Sunday Nov. 22 at 3:00 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium.

The concert will also feature soprano soloist Amy Cochrane, adjunct lecturer in music at Geneseo; tenor soloist Matthew Valverde, lecturer in music at Nazareth College and baritone Jorell Williams, who is a critically-acclaimed opera singer and theatrical performer.

In contrast to the Symphony Orchestra, which is composed of students and faculty members, conductor Gerard Floriano explained that the Geneseo Festival Chorus is "a major works chorale, comprised of both Geneseo students and community members throughout the region.”

Floriano expressed his excitement regarding the opportunity to showcase Haydn’s work with both performance groups collaborating. “Haydn's Creation is one of the great choral masterworks in the repertoire, featuring beautiful solos, ensembles and choral pieces,” he said. “It represents that master composer’s crowning achievement.”

With a month’s worth of rehearsal under their belts, the performers are prepared to deliver an outstanding and technically precise tribute to the celebrated composer.

“It is a rare opportunity to hear this incredible and important musical staple, featuring some outstanding soloists and our own Geneseo Symphony Orchestra and Festival Chorus,” said Floriano.

While admission is technically free, donations will be gratefully accepted in the Wadsworth Auditorium lobby for the Geneseo Friends of Music fund. Checks can be made out to “SUNY Geneseo.”
