Temporary Accommodations
The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) can assist students who have a debilitating temporary injury or condition.
The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) can assist students who have a debilitating temporary injury or condition. Examples may include broken bones, injuries requiring surgery, acute illnesses, impairments due to concussions, and medical complications due to pregnancy/birth.
Assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis, course-by-course basis, and approved accommodations will depend on the nature of each course and how the student is impacted by the injury/condition. Temporary accommodations may include, but are not limited to (or guaranteed):
- Note taking assistance
- Testing accommodations (e.g., extended time, separate location, assistance with written exams)
- Access to assistive technology, audiobooks
- Course policy adjustments, if reasonable, and determined in conjunction with the course instructor
- Referral to campus and/or community resources
Requesting Temporary Accommodations
To request academic accommodations, students should refer to our Steps for Requesting Academic Accommodations. Since temporary conditions can occur at any point during the semester, the timing can significantly impact the accommodation options available to the student. Timely and open communication with the OAS, faculty, and other campus offices about requested assistance is needed.
If the student is unable to submit an online accommodation request, they may contact the OAS via email at access@geneseo.edu, or phone at 585-245-5112 to determine adjustment options as soon as possible. If the student does not have access to a medical provider, they will be referred to the Health Center.
Parking and Mobility Assistance
Students who require a temporary parking pass due to injury or other temporary disability may request a temporary accessible parking permit through the Parking and Transportation office.
Health Services can provide motorized scooters and other mobility aids on a temporary basis. Please note that the OAS is unable to provide transportation services.
