Friday Knight Alumni Spotlight Q&A

Tell us about yourself. Where you live now, career, and/or family news. What have you been up to since you left Geneseo?
I live in Baltimore, MD. I am a professor in the School of Global Journalism & Communication at Morgan State University. Four years after I graduated Geneseo I went back to Staten Island to help put the last FM radio station in New York City on the air and ran it for 22 years. It was at the College of Staten Island. I got my masters there at night, started to teach as an adjunct, and decided to get my doctorate at Rutgers, which I did 20 years ago. That allowed me to teach full time.

What is the best thing about your current job?
Working with students.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Carmel, California. Great hiking and biking and beautiful views of the Pacific.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Give three-feet when passing! (I am an avid cyclist.)

Do you collect anything?
Still buying CDs. Holding onto my albums for when my son finally settles down to give to him.

What is your favorite family tradition?
Saying "I love you" at the end of every conversation or phone call.

What fashion or trend do you hope makes a comeback?
As long as blue jeans never go out of style I'm okay.

What is your favorite fast-food chain?
A slice from a New York City pizzeria.

What is your favorite movie and why?
Vertigo. The best film about love and lost love ever made.

What is your favorite Geneseo memory?
Being a DJ on WGSU. We played such a wide and creative variety of music. WGSU also made me realize that is what I wanted to do with my life.
