She, her, hers

My name is Jane Barker and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. I joined Student Health and Counseling in 2022 after practicing in the field of cardiology for 5 years. I was ready to make a change in my career and have been so happy taking care of college students at the health center! It was a great move for me professionally.

Becoming a Nurse Practitioner was a change in careers for me. I originally went to college to be a Speech-Language Pathologist. I worked for 20 years as a Speech Pathologist in schools, hospitals and nursing homes. After September 11, 2001, I became certified as an EMT/Firefighter and volunteered in  my community with the fire department. My love for emergency medicine led me back to school to become a nurse and then a nurse practitioner. I have found great satisfaction in my educational/professional journey.  It has not been easy, but has been worth it! It is never too late to follow your dreams!

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love cooking and hosting parties! As a family, we like to travel to the mountains in the west, ski, snowmobile, hike, fish, boat and jet ski. I love everything outdoors and enjoy all seasons, but I think Fall and Winter are my favorite!
