Five SUNY Geneseo faculty members and Milne Library will be implementing three Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG) that SUNY has announced for the 2016-17 school year. Geneseo’s awards were among 35 selected across the SUNY system from 78 proposals. The competitive grants fund campus innovations and initiatives with potential to be replicated throughout the SUNY system and benefit students and faculty members worldwide.

SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles was among those cutting the ribbon this week to officially open the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth State Park. Letchworth is a short distance southwest of Geneseo and includes an educational partnership with the college for students and faculty to continue year-round teaching and research with the park.

CIDD programming encourages students to question past traditional answers, to create new or different solutions to local and/or global issues.

Geneseo's administration of SUNY's Open Textbook initiative is highlighted in an Inside Higher Ed story on open educational resources. Interim Library Director Kate Pitcher is quoted on the college's involvement with the program.

Fifteen SUNY Geneseo students are Presidential Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year, representing a variety of academic areas and exemplifying the college's institutional values. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the senior class who also serves as an ambassador for the college.

Eight SUNY Geneseo faculty members, two professional staff members and a member of the College’s classified services are among recipients of Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence for the 2015-16 academic year. The system-wide honors recognize consistently superior professional achievement and and encourages the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher presents the awards annually to faculty and staff in six categories: teaching; adjunct in teaching; faculty service; scholarship and creative activities; professional service; librarianship; and classified service.

Anjoo Sikka, dean of the Ellen Cline Shear School of Education, was among those quoted in a recent Rochester Democrat and Chronicle article on the need for substitute teachers and the general trend for teaching jobs, which she says indicates an increasing demand.

President Battles was featured in "The Key Reporter," Phi Beta Kappa's publication for news and alumni relations. The article was written by alumna Meghan Barrett '16, who received a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa writing internship for 2016.

SUNY Geneseo finished 16th out of over 450 institutions in the 2015-16 Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings, which measure the overall excellence of all 444 Division III athletic programs in the nation.
