SUNY Geneseo’s University Police Department has received accreditation status from the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.
GENESEO, N.Y. – Thomas J. Kilcullen has been named chief of the SUNY Geneseo University Police Department. Kilcullen came to Geneseo as interim police chief in January 2014 after serving in the University at Albany Police Department, where he rose to the position of deputy chief of police and chief investigator.
GENESEO, N.Y. – Three SUNY Geneseo faculty members have received a 2014-15 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching. Two of the recipients are from the Department of Music: Joan Floriano, who teaches voice, and Ernest Lascell, an instructor of clarinet and saxophone. Jasmine Tang, who teaches both elementary and intermediate Chinese in the Department of Languages and Literatures, also received the award.
Patrick X. Rault, associate professor of mathematics at SUNY Geneseo, has received the prestigious Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) to recognize the quality of his undergraduate teaching. The award ceremony took place in August at the 100th anniversary conference of the MAA in Washington, D.C.

SUNY Geneseo faculty member Justin Behrend’s just-published book “Reconstructing Democracy” examines how politically engaged former slaves established a new system of governance in the South after the Civil War.
Behrend, associate professor of history, argues that newly freedpeople created a new democracy in the Reconstruction era, one that replaced the oligarchic rule of slaveholders and Confederates with a system based on egalitarian principles and grassroots participation.
Academically talented students with financial need will benefit from a $639,136 grant the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded SUNY Geneseo to recruit students interested in geology, geochemistry and geophysics programs at the college.

Contemporary portrait painter Ilene Sova will address her work to raise awareness of sexual violence through art as SUNY Geneseo’s next All-College Hour speaker Feb. 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the Doty Recital Hall. Her work also will be on display in the MacVittie College Union. Both her address and exhibit are free and open to the public.
