GENESEO, N.Y. -- The State University of New York at Geneseo will host the fifth annual Front Porch Republic conference, “Sustainable Localism: Sages, Prophets, and Jesters,” Saturday, Oct. 3 in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom.

Noted author and social critic James Howard Kunstler, whose many books include “The Geography of Nowhere,” will deliver the keynote address titled “Looking for Sustainability in All the Wrong Places.”

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo has joined a diverse coalition of 80 public and private colleges and universities in the country with the goal of improving the college admission application process for all students. The coalition is developing a free platform of online tools to streamline the experience of planning for and applying to college.

On the heels of his third annual Adirondack Challenge this summer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo must be delighted with Hollywood's support for his outdoor tourism agenda. Two movies in the last 10 months are encouraging folks -- politely -- to go take a hike. First, it was "Wild," inspired by Cheryl Strayed's Pacific Crest Trail memoir, and now, "A Walk in the Woods," based on Bill Bryson's Appalachian Trail experience.

GENESEO, N.Y. – For the fifth time, SUNY Geneseo tops the “U.S. News & World Report” Best Undergraduate Teaching” rankings among north region universities in its just-published “Best Colleges 2016” guide. Geneseo has ranked first in that category for five of the six years “U.S. News” has included it in its annual rankings.

Polish-born composer and pianist Beata Golec––a Geneseo adjunct lecturer in music––will perform in “The Color of Emotions” faculty recital on Sept. 11 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. Rebeca Boyd, a violinist and Eastman Community Music School teacher that Golec has collaborated with previously, will join her in the concert.

Golec explained that title of the recital comes from her desire to change the generally negative outlook toward modern music.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Washington Monthly magazine has ranked SUNY Geneseo fifth overall among the nation’s 673 master's universities for its contribution to the public good across three broad categories: social mobility, research and civic engagement, and promoting an ethic of service to country. It’s the third year in a row that Geneseo has been in the top five schools in the rankings.

GENESEO, N. Y. -- SUNY Geneseo senior Maydelis Minaya, one of five Geneseo students with a Jewish Foundation for Education of Women (JFEW) scholarship, is among those featured on a SinoVision English television report titled “Not Your Average Summer School.”

Minaya, from New York City, was touring the Chinese Consulate in New York as part of the internship component of her scholarship program when the U.S.-based Chinese network was preparing the report.
