Ensembles
The Department of Music & Musical Theatre welcomes all members of the Geneseo community to join our many music ensembles. The department sponsors six different Instrumental Ensembles, two Choral Ensembles, and additional opportunities to perform in musical theatre productions, chamber music ensembles and jazz combos. Ensembles are open to all Geneseo students and may be taken for 1 credit. The department also makes a number of instruments available to students for rental purposes on a semester basis. All ensemble participation requires a brief audition during the first week of the semester.

Lessons
All students enrolled in the Music BA focusing in Music Performance as well as those enrolled in the BFA and BA in Musical Theatre receive a one-hour private lesson each week as well as attend weekly seminar or group studio class. Vocalists meet for an additional 30-minute session with one of the department’s two vocal coaches each week, while instrumentalists work regularly with the department’s instrumental accompanist in preparation for Friday Afternoon Recitals and solo performances.
In addition, the department offers private lessons to qualified non-majors in piano and orchestral instruments at a small fee on a first come, first serve basis. Non-majors receive one, 30-minute private lesson each week. Due to high demand, the department does not currently offer individual tuition in voice to non-majors. Students interested in voice lessons are strongly encouraged to audition for the major in either music or musical theatre or register for voice class. All lessons require a brief audition during the first week of classes.
