Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE)
The Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) honor society was formed to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through non-traditional criteria. The goals of the honor society are to promote continued high academic standards, to foster increased communication among members and to honor the academic excellence achieved by students admitted to colleges through developmental programs. Chi Alpha Epsilon has an established history with the first chapter being formed in 1989 at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. By 1997 it became a national honor society and began to grow. In 2011, there were over 150 chapters of Chi Alpha Epsilon across the United States. At SUNY Geneseo, the Alpha Psi chapter was chartered on October 28, 2000 with 19 founding members including Isom Fearn (former director of AOP and the man for which the department is dedicated) and Calvin Gantt the current director of AOP.
The Alpha Psi chapter of XAE continues to grow! We currently have 32 members and will be inducting 37 new inductees on Saturday, November 15th. This includes our honorary inductee, Mrs. Audrey Huver. To be eligible for induction, students must achieve a 3.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive semesters and must be in good standing at the time of induction. A closed induction ceremony (members only) is held once a year in the fall and new inductees are given an official certificate, honor cord and XAE pin. Once inducted, XAE members may earn jeweled pins when they achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or above.
Our current e-board includes Alexander Miano as President, Kaila Cohen as Vice President/President Elect, Eugenie Ma as Secretary, Michael Austria as Treasurer, Sara Farnsworth as Coordinator of Fundraising, and Mercedes Carter as Associate Vice President for Membership. Our goals for the year include creating more fundraising projects in the spring semester (besides our current ink cartridge recycling program), holding a full member meeting in January along with more chapter activities so that members can communicate and support one another. We are excited to grow and change into 2015.
