Flipped, Hybrid and Online Courses

Flipped, Hybrid and Online Courses

Flipped, Hybrid, and Online classes all involve administering aspects of your course through the Learning Management System.

Flipped, Hybrid

Three of the most important elements an instructor must use when supporting and teaching students remotely in any of the class formats above are:

  1. Visible
  2. Organized
  3. Active

1.  Being Visible to your students in the course can be achieved in multiple ways:

  • Sharing a faculty introduction about yourself
  • Participating in discussion forums
  • Sending regular communications

All of these will enable you to build relationships with your students as it will show students you are involved and committed to their learning.

2. Staying Organized is essential and can be easily completed by:

  • "Chunking not Clumping" your course material
  • Updating students regularly on modifications to the course no matter how small
  • Naming materials appropriately (using the same title for the assignment and the resources needed for that assignment)

These organization tips will make it easier to manage your material but will also allow students to easily stay on track with all components required for their success.

3.  Being Active in your course takes your visibility to students to the next level through:

  • Timely feedback to students on assignments
  • Keeping students' grades up to date
  • Communicating with students who are at risk

It is important for students to comprehend how they're doing in the course and to be able to keep track of their grade as the course progresses. In order to do this they are    looking for detailed feedback with their grade in a timely manner so that they may adjust as necessary for the subsequent assignments.
