The School of Business is introducing a new marketing major for undergraduate students beginning in Fall 2023.

“The field of marketing continues to offer promising job prospects for undergraduate students because of rapid growth in digital and social media, marketing automation, evolving customer journey, and data-driven marketing,” says Ian Alam, program director and Distinguished Professor of Marketing. “Employers are looking for graduates who can successfully navigate this challenging marketing landscape. The skills and knowledge gained through the new marketing program will provide our students with a strong foundation for success in the ever-evolving marketing industry.”

In addition to the BS program’s emphasis on current marketing trends and practices, Geneseo’s core curriculum also provides a thorough background in accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics, finance, global issues, leadership, and technology. Marketing students will develop skills in communication, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Highlights of the new major include hands-on experience through annual student-practitioner conferences, marketing competitions, networking trips, social media certifications, internships, and various professional development events organized by the American Marketing Association (AMA)-affiliated Geneseo Marketing Club. Graduates of the program will be well prepared for careers in advertising, public relations, social media marketing, digital marketing, market research, sales management, and brand management.
