April is National Volunteer Month
Join students, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate and engage in National Volunteer Month! Find a project that works for you and give back to the Geneseo community.
There is so much to get involved with this spring in Geneseo! From farm and garden work, to neighborhood cleanups, to Geneseo Goes to Town, and Relay for Life, this month has something for everyone. Check out the opportunities and find a way to give back and connect with YOUR community. More projects will be added over the next few weeks so check back often and see what's happening. A Way to Spread Kindness and Acts of Service
Since April is volunteer month, here are different ways you can help your community, spread kindness, and participate in different acts of service.
Hunger To Hope
Hunger to Hope is a nonprofit organization that aims to help feed starving children and empower kids, teen and adults to be part of the solution. They do this by using volunteers to package and ship highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing countries and the United States.

- Battle of the Greeks Food Drive - Friday April 1 - Saturday April 9

Food Security Advocates is organizing our second annual Battle of the Greeks food drive. This food drive is open to all Greek organizations and the one to donate the most goods will win a $100 Visa gift card. All proceeds will go towards our Backpack Lunches for Kids Program. - Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk - Saturday, April 2

10 AM check in, walk begins at 11 AM
Sisters Making a Change (SMAC) is coordinating the Out of the Darkness Walk. All proceeds go to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention for suicide prevention and awareness. People can register or donate at https://afsp.org/geneseo.
- Gumbo to Go - Thursday, April 7

Gumbo to Go is Livingston CARES semi-annual fundraiser. We rely on volunteers to help prepare and serve gumbo on this day to raise money to support student service trip scholarships.
Volunteer jobs will include prepping food throughout the morning and afternoon, clean up throughout the day, packaging the meals, and serving / distributing meals during the evening hours.
All volunteer shifts will take place on Thursday April 7, 2022 at the Central Presbyterian Church - 31 Center St, Geneseo, NY 14454. Please sign up to schedule your shift today: Spring 2022 Gumbo to Go Volunteer Sign Up

- Volunteer at Great Day - Thursday, April 21

GREAT Day will be in person this year on Thursday, April 21st, and we're seeking student volunteers to help make GREAT Day a success.
GREAT Day volunteers will do things like helping to set up and break down the ballroom for the poster sessions, staffing the check-in desk at the ballroom entrance, putting up signs, and tracking attendance at sessions. We need volunteers during the afternoon of April 20th and all day on GREAT Day.
All volunteers will receive a GREAT Day t-shirt.

- Geneseo Goes to Town - Saturday, April 23

Projects throughout the day from 10 AM to 4 PM
Every spring Geneseo students serve in towns and villages all across Livingston County for Geneseo Goes to Town. Put on your Geneseo gear and work on a local farm, clean up a park, clear a trail, or sort donations. The office of student volunteerism and community engagement partners with local service organization Livingston Cares to facilitate the day. - Food Security Advocates' Hunger Banquet - Sunday April 24

4 - 6 PM in the Hunt Room, MacVittie College Union
Join fellow students to learn about the impact of poverty and hunger on millions of people throughout the world. Hunger affects everyone, in countries rich and poor, in urban and rural areas, and everywhere in between. This experience is intended to raise awareness of the food crisis that is affecting some 30 million women, children, and men across the globe and in our local community.
Participants will take part in an immersive dining experience that illustrates the inequities and power structures inherent in food production and distribution.

- Relay for Life - Sunday, April 30

Join students, faculty, staff, and community members in the fight against cancer! The annual Relay for Life event will bring together survivors, caregivers, and supporters of the cause for an action-packed, interactive, IN PERSON event to raise funds and awareness for the work of the American Cancer Society. Hundreds of students will camp out in the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena for one night of fun, fundraising, and raising awareness and solidarity in the fight against cancer
