Meet Our GOLD Leader Mentors

GOLD Leader Mentors are student leaders who volunteer their time to work with the GOLD program. Mentors staff the GOLD Leadership Center in MacVittie College Union Room 114 weekday afternoons & evenings, participate in GOLD events and complete certificate programs, serve as role models for other student leaders and campus organizations, provide information on campus activities and organizations, and help students to make connections and get involved in campus life.

The mentor staff introduce speakers at workshops, oversee student Personal Development Sessions and provide support and assistance for all GOLD programs, including Leadership Certificate Programs. Student leaders and students enrolled in the GOLD Leadership Certificate Program are encouraged to apply for the leader mentor positions in the spring semester. Become a GOLD Leader Mentor.

Alison Briggs ’21

Alison is a sociomedical sciences major from Long Island, New York. I am involved in the GOLD Program because I enjoy learning about others and providing them with support and guidance. I enjoy GOLD because I strive to be a lifelong learner and I like to challenge myself to continuously improve. I also enjoy how Gold teaches us skills we will use in the workforce. I enjoy how they encourage us to become involved in the community off-campus through volunteer work. I enjoy running, volunteering, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Fun fact about Alison: I ran two Half Marathons before I graduated high school.

Amanda Young ’21, Head Office Manager of GOLD

Amanda uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Amanda is a psychology major and conflict studies and sociology minor from Long Island, New York. She is a transfer student and is very interested in Industrial Organizational psychology but she is still open to other things. Besides being a GOLD mentor, she is also involved in the psychology club, club volleyball, and has gone to Italy for a summer study abroad trip and hopes to go for a whole semester. Amanda is a big supporter of the GOLD program because she believes the workshops provide valuable life lessons and skills that many do not get the chance to learn in their classes. She finds the GOLD program not only helpful for life in college, but also outside of college, and at the same time she finds many of them fun and interesting to participate in.

Fun fact about Amanda: At Christmas time my family and I bake 22 different types of cookies and give them out to friends and family. Also, I have never broken a bone in my body, knock on wood!

Ashley is a Mathematics major with a minor in Data Analytics. She is from Rochester, New York. Ashley a member of Sigma Kappa sorority where she holds the position of Vice President Of Membership. She loves talking and getting to know new people! Ashley also works at the Math Learning Center where she can help those who need it and get involved on campus. Ashley believes that the GOLD program is a great way to do that and help develop leadership skills along with making connections with students you wouldn't usually come in contact with. She is excited to get more involved on campus and develop greater friendships through GOLD!

Colin is a  Political Science major from Greenwich, New York. Along with being involved in GOLD, he is currently the assistant news editor on the Lamron and a member of the Model UN club. Colin believes GOLD is a valuable resource for students to not only develop leadership skills but also life skills and for the development of personal growth.

Fun Fact about Colin: Colin and his family recently moved to New Mexico. This is the second time they have lived there!

Corinne Reda ’21, Chief Development Manager of GOLD

Corinne uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Corinne is from Cutchogue, New York, on Long Island. She is a  biology major, hoping to become a physical therapist. On campus Corinne is involved in Women's club volleyball and lacrosse and is also working to create a Women's club soccer team on campus. She is also involved in the Circle K service club and the biology club. Corinne loves the GOLD program because it is a fun and interactive way to add to your educational experience at Geneseo. It supplements material that may be missing from the classroom setting, in order to make you into a well developed student.

Fun fact about Corinne: She ran a half marathon!

Francesca uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Francesca is a Psychology major with a minor in Sociology from Long Island, New York. Other than being a GOLD Mentor, she is a school counseling intern at Ellis B. Hyde Elementary School in Dansville, with the hopes of becoming a school counselor in the future. Francesca loves GOLD and believes that you will always learn something new from attending workshops. She feels that GOLD is such a fun way to get involved on campus, while getting the opportunity to develop life skills for after college and outside the classroom. Francesca recommends signing up for workshops because they are great for personal growth and discovering how to be a better leader.

Madelynn Maiolo

Madelynn Maiolo ’21, Chief Promotional Manager of GOLD

Madelynn is from Rome, New York. She is involved in Greek life on campus, specifically Delta Phi Epsilon and is a Communication major. Madelynn enjoys singing and doing makeup in my free time.

Neo Nxumalo is a mathematics major from Wappingers Falls, NY. Neo enjoys cooking, singing, and especially reading mystery novels. When she graduates, Neo hopes to go on and pursue her master’s degree in data science. Neo believes that GOLD is a good fit for her because it teaches leadership skills that will be applicable to her career tech. She would like to represent the black community at SUNY Geneseo.

Rachel Wallisky ’21, Chief Information Manager of GOLD

Rachel is a History and American Studies double major with a political science minor from Horseheads, NY. She is an Andrew Goodman Fellowship Ambassador, helping to foster student-led and -focused civic and community engagement on campus, this year's Newman Civic Fellow and is also one of the two Townhouse Community Organizers. Rachel also plays piano and guitar, and loves jamming to her favorite Broadway cast albums. Her favorite part of GOLD is her fellow mentors, and its fostering of group learning and leadership.

Sakura Hamazaki ’21, GOLD Leader Mentor

Sakura is a Biology major and Chemistry and Mathematics minor from Hastings on Hudson, NY. Aside from the GOLD program, she is part of the Geneseo Women's Swimming and Diving team. Over the last few years, she has been developing a Student Athlete Resource Center and will be serving as a Student Athlete mentor this upcoming fall. She is currently involved in research in the Chemistry department and is on the pre-med track, aspiring to attend medical school upon graduation. Her favorite aspect of GOLD would be the student to student mentorship it fosters and she hopes to bring this mentorship to the Student Athlete Resource Center as well. She is thankful for all the things the GOLD program has taught her and she hopes everyone becomes more active within the program by taking more workshops!

Alexa LaRocca ’22, GOLD Leader Mentor

Alexa uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Alexa is a Psychology and Communication double major from Syracuse, NY. She is considering the possibilities these majors offer after graduation but has a passion for social justice, inclusivity, and leadership. Alexa is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority in which she serves as the Circle of Sisterhood Representative. She is also a member of the Undergraduate Alumni Association, Greeter in the Admissions Office, player on the women’s club soccer team, and will be a research assistant and TA for Child Development this fall. In her free time she is an artist, creating both drawings and paintings. She is excited to be a part of the GOLD program because it provides the space, support, and strategies required to achieve continuous, holistic self-improvement.

Fun fact about Alexa: She has gone on 4 summer mission trips across the country: DC, Brooklyn, Rutland, and Philadelphia.

Alexa Palotta ’22, GOLD Leader Mentor

Alexa uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

I am a Early Childhood/Childhood Education Major with a Human Development Concentration from Long Island, New York. I worked for CAS in Letchworth Dining Hall (Firestone Pizza and Maxine’s Bakery) and MJ Dining Hall (Goodfellas) for the past two years. I am a member of Sigma Kappa where I held the position of Song Chair all of the last academic year and currently hold the assistant position for the Scholarship Committee. Furthermore, I am a member of the Council for Exceptional Children’s Club (CEC) and the Youth of Council for Children (YCC), and I was a mathematics tutor for MATH 140 this past fall semester. I aspire to find a job as an elementary school teacher right after college. I wanted to become involved in the GOLD Program because I want to be able to make an impact within the Geneseo community by spreading positivity and support to students and by helping students grow as leaders and individuals, as well as myself during the process.

Fun fact about Alexa: AI am not sure if I still can because it has been a while, but I used to be able to pogo stick with no hands!

Arianna Falletta ’22, GOLD Leader Mentor

Arianna uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Arianna is a biology major and math minor from Long Island, New York. She is a member of the Geneseo Women’s Swimming and Diving Team and has been swimming since she was seven. Arianna is also involved in research in the Biology department for regeneration biology. She is on the pre-med track and hopes to one day attend medical school. Arianna believes that the GOLD program is such an amazing opportunity for students to get involved in campus, as well as a great resource for students to develop many life skills. She finds that the GOLD workshops teach unique life lessons that aren’t always taught in classes.

Alison is a business administration major. I am involved with a local sorority on campus, Phi Kappa Pi as well as being a campus manager for University tees. I like the GOLD program because it is so informative and allows people to explore other interests outside of their major as well as connecting with people you didn't know before.

Jess Rivera ’22, GOLD Leader Mentor

Jess uses They/Them/Theirs pronouns

Jess is a geography major with a minor in environmental studies. Born and raised in Bronx , New York, Jess hopes to pursue further education after a gap semester while working. While their interests include gardening, upcycling and community art projects a lot of what ties it together is my belief in everyone’s right for self determination. Entering their third year, Jess will be one of the copresidents of Peace action next year and a DICE (Diversity Inclusion Community Educator). While in Geneseo, Jess hopes to make and impact on local sustainability efforts and accessibility for the campus and local community. On their free time, they enjoy hiking, learning about plants, baking and ambiguous mixed media projects.

Jessica Perrone is a double major in Psychology and Spanish with a minor in public administration from Rochester, NY. She hopes to one day be working in non-profit, creating an environment or diversity and acceptance. Jess believes that the GOLD program is an amazing way to get involved on campus and make connections with people from all over. For anyone that is in the psychology program, she recommends them to involve themselves in the mind-blowing life discussions of the GOLD mentor staff.

Laura is an accounting major and data analytics minor, from East Hampton NY. She is part of Greek life on campus, part of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. She is the treasurer of the Accounting society. She hopes to one day be able to teach accounting in a university. Loves dogs and sunsets!

Linda is a International Relations major and Asian Studies minor from Mount Morris, NY. In addition to GOLD, Linda is part of the Chinese Culture Club at Geneseo (CCCG) and Livingston CARES. In her free time, she likes volunteering, watching tv, listening to C-pop, and learning new languages. Linda believes being a part of the GOLD program is a great way of learning new ideas and developing new skills. The GOLD program is an amazing program and she recommends everyone to attend workshops.

I am a psychology and sociomedical science double major from East Hampton, New York. Besides being a GOLD mentor I am also a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority where I hold the position of diversity and inclusion chairman. I am a strong advocate for minority and immigrant voices in the community. I love the GOLD program because it allows all students regardless of their background to be involved on campus and learn from our many workshops. I am proud to be part of a group of inclusive and open-minded people such as GOLD.

Fun fact about Luiza: I spent 3 months of my senior year of high school in Cape Town, South Africa volunteering at a school for children with disabilities.

Mary is a junior international relations major with a concentration in the developing world and a sociomedical science minor. She is from Long Island, New York. Other than being a GOLD mentor she is a member of Alpha Kappa Phi and is currently the charity chair. She believes that the GOLD program is a great way to meet new people and get involved on campus. Her favorite part of GOLD is great way to develop leadership skills and an interesting way to learn outside of the classroom.

Naomi is a junior psychology major who hopes to become a school psychologist after college. She is from Bethesda Maryland which is about 20 minutes from DC. Naomi is in a local sorority called Sister’s Making A Change and a research assistant for Dr. DeHart psychology research lab. She enjoys the outdoors, traveling, going to concerts, yoga, and volunteering. Naomi believes the GOLD program is an amazing way to connect with our community and learn personal skills to help ourselves for the future.

I am a junior history major from Rochester New York. I am also involved in the Co-ed community service fraternity on campus, Alpha Phi Omega. I wanted to become a Gold Mentor to meet new people and expand upon my leadership skills.

Maddy is a sophomore biology major with a minor in the Edgar Fellows honors program from Rochester, NY. In addition to being part of the GOLD program, Maddy is involved in Geneseo’s pre-vet club as well as Sigma Kappa sorority. In her free time, Maddy teaches horse lessons and summer camp at Manitou Hill Farms. Maddy believes GOLD presents a unique opportunity to better yourself and others, while learning important life skills in a safe and healthy environment.

Carly Sheeran ‘23

Carly is a sophomore biology major and human development minor from Washingtonville, New York. She is hoping to be either a doctor or a physician assistant in the future. Carly is also a goalie on the women’s club ice hockey team and a member of the book club. She has been attending GOLD workshops since the first month of her freshman year and appreciates the skills that they offer in different areas. She is excited to be a part of the program and hopes to make a positive impact on the campus community.

Emma Stelley ‘23

Emma is a sophomore Business Administration Major and Data Analytics minor from Buffalo, NY. Along with being in GOLD, she is in the Marketing Club, the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and is on the Club Lacrosse team. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors and going hiking or skiing. Emma loves GOLD because of the large array of different classes you're able to take and all the different people she normally wouldn't get to meet.

Fun fact about Emma:  Went on a mission trip to Costa Rica senior year where she worked at a school for underprivileged children.

Shantal Herrera

Shantal Herrera ’23, GOLD Leader Mentor

Shantal uses She/Her/Hers pronouns

Shantal is a freshman math major with an adolescent education certificate. She would like to minor in linguistic and learn sign language. Shantal is from Mount Morris Ny (only 15 minutes away from Geneseo). Back in high school, Shantal was part of the National Honor Society and key club. She was always very passionate about doing community service and being part of different kinds of projects. Therefore, Shantal decided to join the GOLD program, where she can do what she loves, helping people and the community. Shantal is also the treasurer for the student coalition of migrant workers. Shantal thinks GOLD really opens the door for new and fun adventures and creates great friendships.

Fun Fact about Shantal: Shantal is originally from Mexico and is the first generation to go to college.
