GENESEO, N.Y.—The Department of Music’s Chamber Singers and Spectrum Women’s Ensemble will present a joint concert on April 24 in Doty Recital Hall at 3 p.m. The concert will not only commemorate William Shakespeare, but it will also be the final time to hear the Geneseo Chamber Singers before they leave for their, five-concert tour of Italy. The concert is free and open to the public.

GENESEO, N.Y.—Seven teams from Geneseo will move on to the statewide New York Business Plan Competition in Albany on April 29, following the Finger Lakes regional competition that took place at SUNY Geneseo on April 13. The winning teams will go on to compete against groups from institutions across the state, vying for more than $500,000 in prizes.

GENESEO, N.Y.—The Music Department is proud to present the Geneseo Piano Trio’s second concert together, which will take place on April 17 at 3:00 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall.

The new music ensemble consists of lecturers Andrew Bergevin on the violin, James Kirkwood on the cello and Jonathan Gonder on the piano. The trio replaced the acclaimed Tremont String Quartet in the fall, which had been in residence at Geneseo since 1977. The Geneseo Piano Trio has only ever performed together once before, in their debut concert on Nov. 15.

GENESEO, N.Y.—Geochemist and biochemist Nita Sahai will deliver the 13th Annual American Rock Salt Lecture on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. Free and open to the public, the lecture—titled “The Potential Roles of Minerals in the Origins of Life”—will take place in Newton Hall Room 202.

On April 13, SUNY Geneseo will host the 2016 New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) for the Finger Lakes Region. The competition will consist of thirty-seven teams of entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to a panel of respected members of the business community. Teams representing Geneseo, Hobart and William Smith, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher College, State University of New York at Brockport and the University of Rochester will participate in the competition, each hoping to win a place in the statewide finals.

Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) was started in 2007 by Bill Clinton, 42nd President of the United States, as an extension of the Clinton Global Initiative — which brings together world leaders to take action on global challenges. CGI U brings the next generation of leaders and innovators together in order to collaborate and develop specific “Commitment to Action” plans.

GENESEO, N.Y.—Robert Musil, president and CEO of the Rachel Carson Council (RCC), will deliver SUNY Geneseo’s second annual President’s Sustainability Lecture April 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom. As a part of Geneseo’s Earth Week celebrations, Musil’s speech “Rachel Carson & Her New York Legacy” will examine Rachel Carson and what her effect has been not only on New York State, but also on women involved in Western New York sustainability.
