AOP Pre-Freshman Summer Program

All EOP freshmen are required to participate in a multi-week summer program during the months of July and August.  All applicants will participate in both EOP and college-wide information sessions; will be tested for appropriate summer course placement in writing, grammar and mathematics; and will receive their class schedule.  A variety of social and cultural activities will be provided during the summer program, and all freshmen participants will be assessed a participation fee.  EOP participants costs will be minimal since their costs will be shared by the State's Educational Opportunity Program.  AOP transfer students are expected to meet with their assigned AOP counselor prior to participation in college sponsored transfer orientation.

Counseling

All AOP students will be assigned an AOP staff counselor who shall be available to assist them in making personal, social and academic adjustments to college life during the summer and throughout the student's undergraduate career.  Additionally, the counselor will also assist AOP students in the areas of academic advisement, social and career development, study skills, time management, financial aid advisement, etc. All AOP counseling services are free and confidential.

Academic Advisement

All AOP counselors are trained in the area of academic advisement, and provide advisement to AOP students in accordance with established regulations set by the Office of the Dean of the College.  Although AOP students are expected to be advised by their AOP counselor for a minimum of four semesters, AOP counselors are available to provide AOP students with academic advisement throughout the course of their academic careers.  Please note that all Geneseo students must be advised in their chosen major upon the completion of 60 credit hours in addition to being advised through AOP; although some students will be assigned an academic advisor earlier in their academic career depending on their chosen academic major.

Tutoring

Free tutorial services are available in most subject areas throughout AOP students' undergraduate careers.  Individual and group tutoring is available on a request basis and, when utilized consistently, has been proven to enhance overall academic performance significantly.

Student Development Workshops

Specialized workshops are offered regularly in many areas, including research skills, dealing with test anxiety, note-taking, reading techniques, graduate school preparation and a host of other important topics.
